You’ll never guess who Alabama Crimson Tide offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin recently began following on Twitter… the official Tennessee Volunteers Football account.

Arguably the most hated man in Knoxville didn’t stop there however, Kiffin also followed Tennessee head coach Butch Jones, quarterback Joshua Dobbs, running back Jalen Hurd, cornerback Cam Sutton, safety Todd Kelly Jr., defensive end Derek Barnett, linebackers Jalen Reeves-Maybin and Dillon Bates and former linebacker Curt Maggitt, as well as Tennessee’s official basketball account, official athletics account and UT’s official sports photo account.

In addition to those follows, Kiffin also recently began following three 2017 recruits of interest: defensive lineman Rutger Reitmaier and quarterbacks Jack Sears and N’Kosi Perry. All three players are being heavily recruited by the Vols and none of them have scholarship offers from Alabama at this time.

It’s inconceivable to think Tennessee would be interested in bringing Kiffin back to Rocky Top. Putting aside all the bad blood still fresh in the minds of Vol fans after Kiffin bolted for USC following the 2009 season, Tennessee’s offense performed well in Mike DeBord’s first season as the team’s offensive coordinator –  the Vols ranked No. 3 in the SEC scoring offense (35.2 ppg) and No. 2 in rushing offense (223.7 ypg) last season.

So what could Kiffin be up with these moves?

Kiffin has been known to troll the Vols, as he did last season wearing an orange tie before Alabama hosted Tennessee last season.

It’s also possible Kiffin is doing his best to move on from the past and mend his relationship with Tennessee. The Tide’s offensive coordinator could simply be extending the olive branch now that Tennessee appears to have finally completed its turnaround following the disastrous Kiffin era and is ready to compete for the SEC title in 2016. Maybe he decided it was simply time to move on and wanted to show the Vols some love.

Kiffin may be doing his best to soothe his rocky relationship with Tennessee but until the Vols beat a Kiffin-coached team on the field, it’s hard to see any UT fans forgiving the coach before then. After all, he did cause a riot on campus and a mattress to be set ablaze the night it was announced he was leaving:
