A lot of debate surrounding the current Colllege Football Playoff format has come up after Alabama beat out Ohio State for the No. 4 seed this season.

Multiple people, from analysts to fans alike, have argued that the current Playoff system needs to expand to eight teams. The decision to put a one-loss Alabama team without a conference championship into the Playoff ahead of a two-loss Big 10 champ in Ohio State has fueled much of the conversation.

While more teams sounds good on the surface, ESPN radio host Taylor Zarzour explained why many people would still have an issue with an eight-team Playoff. According to Zarzour, the format for an eight-team Playoff would include every Power 5 conference champion, the best Group of 5 team, and two at-large bids available.

“If we did an 8-team playoff after conference championship games this season, Clemson would have been the No. 1 seed and Central Florida would have been the No. 8 seed,” explained Zarzour. “Oklahoma would have been the No. 2 seed, and guess who would have been the No. 7 seed? Auburn.”

Zarzour pointed out the fact that expanding the Playoff would have put in more SEC teams than the current format while giving the two at-large bids to Auburn and Alabama this season:

“Guess what they would do if they expanded the Playoff for you? They would put MORE SEC teams in,” said Zarzour.
