As we continue to navigate our way through the COVID-19 pandemic, college athletics recruiting has gotten very strange.

Obviously, with travel not encouraged and large gatherings not prohibited, there haven’t been any sanctioned recruiting weekends or official visits for months.

That will continue, based on an announcement from the NCAA DI Council on Wednesday. The dead period will now continue until Jan. 1, 2021:

“While the Council acknowledged and appreciates the growing desire to resume in-person recruiting by select coaches’ associations, Council members ultimately concluded the primary concern right now must be protecting the current student-athletes on our campuses,” said Council chair M. Grace Calhoun, athletics director at Pennsylvania. “We encourage our coaches to interact with prospective student-athletes virtually in this time period.”

That will take us through the 2020 season (a few bowl games and the College Football Playoff aside). Will it be extended even further when the time comes?
