After having the most draft selections per year over the last decade, the NFL clearly values the SEC over every other college football league.

Expect more of the same from the 2017 NFL Draft, as NFL.com recently ranked their Top 100 college football players for 2016 and 38 players from the SEC made the list, with Alabama and LSU splitting honors with the most selections with nine each.

The complete breakdown of the NFL’s list per school: Alabama – 9, LSU – 9, Tennessee – 5, Texas A&M – 5, Ole Miss – 3, Florida – 3, Missouri – 1, Arkansas – 1, Georgia – 1 and Auburn – 1.

This list does include some headscratchers, as most would rank Chad Kelly (No. 21) as a better quarterback than Joshua Dobbs (No. 8). Most Tennessee fans would also rank Jalen Hurd (No. 67)  and Cam Sutton (No 59) or Jalen Reeves-Maybin (No. 55) as the Vols’ best players.

Alabama outside linebacker Tim Williams (No. 4) is a sack machine, but so far in his career he’s been purely a situational player and only has 26 career tackles.

With two receivers ranked in the top 73 players in the nation, it would seem the NFL is begging for Les Miles and Cam Cameron to allow quarterback Brandon Harris to air it out a little more this season. Yes LSU may have the best player in the league, and arguably the nation, but Fournette likely can’t carry the Tigers to a national title by himself. With two excellent receivers on the roster, the running back shouldn’t have to carry the entire load on offense.

Despite sending a number of defensive prospects to the NFL in the most recent draft, Florida still have elite talent on defense, with three players ranked in the top 69 in the nation.
