Recruiting is known for twists and turns and last-minute surprises. Sometimes, as hard as other schools try to get a prospect to change his mind, a commitment actually sticks.

Palm Beach Central (Fla.) CB Akeem Dent is rated the No. 3 cornerback, No. 5 Florida product and No. 33 recruit overall nationally on the 247Sports Composite. He committed to Florida State on July 21, 2017, but it wasn’t always certain he was heading to Tallahassee. In October 2018, four 247Sports experts switched their Crystal Ball predictions on Dent from FSU to Alabama expecting him to flip his commitment. Even the lead expert on Dent, Noles247’s Josh Newberg, had his Crystal Ball as “undecided.” The fact that Dent was not announced as a signee during the Early Signing Period indicated he wasn’t firm in his pledge to the Seminoles.

On Dec. 29, he told Newberg that he was considering taking visits in January and that he “might surprise a lot of people.” Newberg’s article noted that Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, Miami and Clemson were still recruiting Dent.

Saturday, however, he officially shut down any possible visits, announcing on social media that he is on his way to FSU as an early enrollee. If Dent actually signed in December, visits were never happening. You’ve got to love recruiting.
