Ole Miss landed one of the prize recruits in the 2016 class Tuesday after five-star quarterback Shea Patterson announced his commitment to the Rebels over USC and LSU.

Patterson, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound pro-style passer with a rocket arm, would be the Rebels’ top quarterback get since Eli Manning in 1999. Patterson has thrown for 5,083 yards and 72 touchdowns over his last two seasons at Calvary Baptist Academy in Shreveport, La., winning state championships both years.

“Playing time is huge,” Patterson said in a recent interview with The Shreveport Times. “But I really want to go in with a coaching staff that I can work with and have good relationships with. I want to be comfortable with a quarterbacks coach that I work with day in and day out.”

Patterson committed to Arizona as a freshman but pulled back before his junior season after receiving an LSU offer. He is the kind of player that could take the Rebels to an elite level, a program that has made substantial strides and is already on the rise nationally under Hugh Freeze.
