When the new four-game redshirt rule was instituted this season, it seemed beneficial mostly for younger players trying to find the right home for their college careers.

But one veteran player is taking advantage of it, too.

Oregon receiver Tabari Hines, a graduate transfer from Wake Forest, will take a redshirt this season and seek a second grad transfer, according to a report from The Oregonian. That means Hines will look to play on his third team in as many seasons, which is a rarity considering how strict NCAA transfer rules have been in the past.

Hines has appeared in four games for the Ducks, which is the most a player can participate in and still take a redshirt under the new rules. He had no catches in all but one game, a 64-12 win against Portland State in which he made three receptions for 32 yards and a touchdown.

In 2015, Hines set the Wake Forest program record for catches (32) and receiving yards (336) by a true freshman. He remained involved in the team’s passing game before transferring to Oregon after the 2017 season.

That didn’t work out for whatever reason, and now Hines is attempting one last shot at a breakout season.
