The Outback Bowl is no more. The SEC-affiliated New Year’s Day bowl game in Tampa, Florida will now simply be known as the Tampa Bay Bowl, with a new logo.

A press release states that not much will change besides the name and logo. The Tampa Bay Bowl will continue as a New Year’s Day bowl game between teams from the SEC and Big Ten or ACC/Notre Dame in partnership with ESPN. The game is also keeping the same venue, Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium, home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

“We are thrilled about our new Tampa Bay Bowl logo and name which is a reflection of our 36-year relationship with the vibrant Tampa Bay region as one of the most exciting and hospitable destinations of any college bowl game,” Tampa Bay Bowl Chair Rita Lowman said in the release. “We look forward to continuing the Tampa Bay Bowl’s positive impact on college football and the Tampa Bay community, both economically and by showcasing our region nationally and internationally. The Tampa Bay Bowl will continue to impact local charities through the game’s Charitable Giving Initiative which has given more than $3 million in donations to local charities since 2016.”

The game launched in 1986 as the Hall of Fame Bowl in 1986. It became the Outback Bowl in 1996. Arkansas won the 2022 Outback Bowl over Penn State, 24-10. The 2023 Tampa Bay Bowl will be played on New Year’s Day and air on ESPN2.
