Paul Finebaum is sounding the alarm for the SEC when it comes to the College Football Playoff field.

In case you missed it, last week was a very-not-good week for the conference’s prospects of getting four teams into the field. Alabama, Ole Miss and Texas A&M all suffered their third losses of the season, and as a result, all took tumbles in the latest CFP projections released by the committee on Tuesday night. Alabama checked in at No. 13 after losing to Oklahoma, Ole Miss is No. 14 after falling at Florida, and the Aggies fell to No. 20 after stumbling against Auburn.

Finebaum joined Heather Dinich on ESPN’s morning show, Get Up, on Wednesday to offer some takeaways from the latest rankings from the committee. Both of their thoughts can be summed up with what Dinich said to start the segment: “The SEC is in big trouble.”

Dinich added that Alabama and Ole Miss have “played themselves out” of the playoff picture. Finebaum tacked on that the SEC’s playoff troubles are “their own fault.”

Unless chaos really ensues this weekend, it seems like the SEC will get at least three teams into the field with Texas at No. 3, Georgia at No. 7 and Tennessee at No. 8. If there is another rankings shakeup after rivalry weekend, No. 15 South Carolina looks like the three-loss SEC team that’s playing the best right now, having won five games in a row. If the Gamecocks can beat No. 12 Clemson on the road this weekend, that should only increase the SEC’s chances of getting a fourth team into the field.
