With Mississippi State being 5-6 and Ole Miss being 4-7, the Egg Bowl on Thanksgiving doesn’t have as much buzz as previous years. But the game in Starkville brings more pressure to one coach, according to SEC Network host Paul Finebaum.

The Bulldogs are three-point favorites in the game set to kick off at 6:30 p.m. local time on Thursday on ESPN. Finebaum made his regular weekly appearance on the WJOX 94.5 program “The Roundtable” in Birmingham to discuss the game. Both teams have lost four of their last five SEC games.

“I think it’s more important to Joe Moorhead, having been to both campuses in the last five weeks,” Finebaum said. “Ole Miss, they like Matt Luke, the record is the record, but I think Ole Miss fans, even with a loss could probably live with him especially with a newly-named athletic, who is part of the system. I don’t see how Joe Moorhead has a claim on this job if he can’t beat Ole Miss at home after what most would consider an embarrassingly bad year. I think the answer is very clear. I’m intrigued by the game, I don’t know who else will be. I don’t think Joe Moorhead has much of a claim to keep his job if he can’t beat an average Ole Miss team at home to finish this season.”
