The return of the SEC was glorious Saturday, as every conference team was in action.

Top-ranked Alabama took care of Missouri 38-19 in Columbia. The Tide were hammering the Tigers, and Nick Saban and company took their foot off the pedal, as Missouri scored a late touchdown to make it look much closer than it actually was.

Elsewhere, Florida hammered Ole Miss 51-35 behind quarterback Kyle Trask. The Gators gunslinger throw for 416 yards and 6 touchdowns in the rout, but UF has some real issues to fix on defense.

Georgia is ranked as a top 5 team; however, the Bulldogs struggled early against Arkansas. Starting quarterback D’Wan Mathis was benched in lieu of former walk-on Stetson Bennett. The Bulldogs came alive in the second half and ended up winning 37-10, but UGA has some real offensive issues to work out and fast.

Following the SEC’s Week 1 action — college football’s Week 4, Paul Finebaum joined SportsCenter to rank his top 4 teams in the nation. Alabama and Florida made the cut, along with Notre Dame and Clemson.

  • 4. Florida Gators: “Florida under Dan Mullen is looking really spectacular. Kyle Trask was fantastic in Lane Kiffin’s debut,” Finebaum said.
  • 3. Notre Dame Fighting Irish: “They did not play yesterday because of COVID issues, but I still like what I’m seeing from Notre Dame. As soon as they can get back on the field, they will have a lot to say about the national championship.”
  • 2. Alabama Crimson Tide: “They were just demolishing Missouri yesterday, and they let their foot off the gas a little bit at the end. The score may be deceiving.”
  • 1. Clemson Tigers: “There’s nobody right now that looks like they can knock Clemson off other than Notre Dame, and what about Miami? That’s my file team (at No. 5).”

One notable team missing from Finebaum’s top 4 is Oklahoma. The Sooners suffered an upset at the hands of Kansas State Saturday. The Sooners Playoff hopes aren’t dead, but they took a serious hit.

Ohio State is also missing from Finebaum’s rankings. The Big Ten doesn’t start the season until October 24.
