Based on what Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield and Stanford RB Bryce Love have done this season, it doesn’t appear anyone from the SEC has a chance to win the Heisman Trophy.

However, that doesn’t mean the conference can’t send a player to the ceremony in New York, as Alabama QB Jalen Hurts and Auburn RB Kerryon Johnson are both in the mix to get an invite.

On “The Opening Drive” on WJOX on Monday morning, ESPN host Paul Finebaum said he doesn’t think either player can win, but he does think that one or the other could earn an invite to New York with a monster game.

“I think they both have (a shot) with a monster game,” he said. “The key to this game is the winner gets one more big stage. I think either one of them can get to New York. I don’t think any of them can win, short of Baker Mayfield just doubling down and repeating what he did the other day times 10.”

It will be interesting to see how Johnson and Hurts play, as both will be going against tough defenses in this weekend’s Iron Bowl.

However, Finebaum is probably right about the winner having the best chance, as whichever player’s team wins on Saturday will get to play in the SEC Championship Game, adding to their stats and getting in front of voters one more time.
