It’s almost midseason (or it is for some teams). But it’s not too late to get it right, at least we hope not. As we like to do every weekend, we’ll take a crack at predicting the final records for the teams of the SEC.

Is it easier than it was before Week 1? Sure. But it’s still plenty difficult, which is what makes Saturday fun.

West

Alabama: 12-0

Showed some signs of being human against A&M, but still don’t see any losses coming.

Arkansas: 5-7

There’s just not six wins out there for this team. It’s a wide open West, but it’s not that wide open.

Auburn: 9-3

Alabama and UGA look like losses, but the rest look like victories. That Georgia game could shift to the other column as well — revenge is a strong motivator and homefield is a huge benefit.

LSU: 8-4

Seven or nine wins could be possible — but as up and down as this team is, we’ll stick with eight. They will probably beat somebody (else) they shouldn’t, and lose to somebody (else) they shouldn’t.

Mississippi State: 8-4

A&M and Alabama look like losses, but State could plausibly nab all the rest. Kentucky might be the best team left on its schedule other than those two likely losses.

Ole Miss: 4-8

Not a lot of winnable games left on the schedule really. If they want to have a decent season, beating Vandy at home is a must.

Texas A&M: 8-4

We had the Aggies at seven wins, but after watching them give Alabama a good game, we’re a little more bullish on their upside.

East

Florida: 6-5

The Gators could still post an eight or nine win season, but A&M looks like a much tougher opponent than LSU, and we saw how that just turned out.

Georgia: 12-0

We’ve retained a little bit of skepticism about coach Kirby. Not any more. Pencil us in for 12-0 Georgia versus 12-0 Alabama. We’ll bring the popcorn.

Kentucky: 7-5

Survive and advance is a basketball thing, as Kentucky will find out if they keep playing this way on the gridiron.

Missouri: 4-8

Not quitting matters. Last year it was Arkansas. This year, it’ll be somebody that Mizzou trips up late, because they’re still fighting.

South Carolina: 7-5

Were we impressed? Sure, but Florida, Georgia, and Clemson are still three daunting opponents left on the schedule.

Tennessee: 7-5

Look at that schedule again and climb off the ledge, Vol fans. We can’t promise Tennessee will play better, but (Alabama aside), they’ll look better playing badly.

Vanderbilt: 6-6

Ole Miss holds the key to Vandy’s bowl eligibility. If they lose that game, it’s hard to count up six wins for the Dores.
