After all the preseason predictions, nobody ever bothers to revisit them. Well, we’re taking a mulligan and revisiting them.

Florida’s complete lack of offense? No, we didn’t see that coming. LSU’s impressive all-around performance? Well, we know now. So with one game behind most teams, we’ll try this again — here’s where we see the SEC squads ending up.

SEC West

Alabama 12-0

Seriously, they could lose — possibly — in the Iron Bowl. That’s about it. LSU is good, but in Tuscaloosa? Alabama won’t be challenged more than twice all season.

Arkansas 7-5

They’re not a bad team, but there’s a big gap between the best teams in the West and everybody else. Arkansas could finish fourth.

Auburn 9-3

At LSU will be a tough one, and winning in Clemson certainly won’t be easy, although that looks to be the more likely of the two. There could be one more team that catches Auburn napping. Otherwise, 10-2 is entirely plausible.

LSU 10-2

Other than at Alabama, there’s really no game that LSU shouldn’t win. They figure to have an off-night somewhere, but that’s what it would take for most of their opponents to have a shadow of a chance.

Mississippi State 8-4

Probably better than we initially thought. Can see them picking up eight wins, with A&M and Arkansas being winnable road SEC games.

Ole Miss 5-7

No defense, and not much running game. Shea Patterson is good, but he can’t carry this dog of a team to a winning season.

Texas A&M ?

Verdict is still out because they haven’t played. Realistically, if they can beat UCLA on the road tonight, they could win eight games. If they can’t, six is probably the ceiling.

East

Florida 6-6

No chance at Florida State (unless Deondre Francois is done for the season), no chance against LSU or probably Georgia. If they don’t get better offensively, games like at Kentucky and at Mizzou could end up in the loss column. This could get ugly in a hurry.

Georgia 9-3

Easily the class of the East. If they lose the division, it’ll be because they gave it away. Next week should be interesting, because it’s hard to tell if they or Notre Dame are particularly good right now.

Kentucky 6-6

The market was a bit bullish on Kentucky, but that power running game disappeared in their opener. If it doesn’t return, six wins is the ceiling.

Missouri 4-8

Who can they stop? Missouri State put up 43 points and nearly 500 yards. Teams like Auburn and Georgia might rush for 500 yards. By halftime.

South Carolina 8-4

Terrific opening win against a quality ACC opponent in N.C. State. Still, it’s a challenging schedule and this team still has some big holes. Can they beat teams like Kentucky and Arkansas at home?

Tennessee ?

Hasn’t played yet either. If it loses to Georgia Tech on Monday, it’s a 6-win ceiling. If the Vols win, they could end up second to Georgia in a very winnable East.

Vanderbilt 7-5

Probably underrated the Commodores a little. Either they’re really good defensively or Middle Tennessee got much worse. They and South Carolina looked like the most capable of the East’s little four most likely to break up the big three on top of the division.
