Two Texas high school football players who coordinated and viciously attacked a referee during a game Friday night have been suspended from the team and could face criminal charges, according to ESPN.

“The first thing we want is that those two kids never play football again,” Austin Football Officials Association secretary Wayne Elliott told ESPN.

Two defensive backs from John Jay High targeted the back judge late in the fourth quarter after disagreeing with a previous penalty call. Video shows one of the safeties spearing the official from behind while his teammate then leads with his helmet toward the ground after the back judge had hit the turf.

“I’ve coached 14 years, and I’ve never seen anything like it,” opposing coach Matt Green of Marble Falls High told ESPN.
