The top seven should not change based on what we saw in Weeks 0 and 1 unless Oklahoma struggles with Houston on Sunday night. An impressive win over a Group of 5 or FCS opponent seems unlikely to have any teams leapfrog other winning teams. So, sorry LSU.

At No. 8, however, there could be a change.

Current No. 8 Florida is likely to drop after escaping 24-20 in Week 0 against unranked Miami. The Hurricanes were the equivalent of the AP’s No. 29 team based on the “others receiving votes” list, which may keep the Gators from plummeting. But Dan Mullen’s squad did little to impress the voters in the Week 0 showcase.

Auburn should jump into the No. 8 spot after beating No. 11 Oregon 27-21. The game in Jerry World was CFB’s only matchup of two ranked teams.

In the preseason AP Top 25, 46 teams received votes. Some of the unranked teams that received votes could jump into the top 25.

If you start the “others receiving votes” category at No. 26, Virginia entered the day equivalent of No. 32. UVA went on the road and beat Pittsburgh 30-14. Not the most impressive victory, but certainly more impressive than current No. 21 Iowa State needing three overtimes to beat FCS Northern Iowa 29-26. Nos. 22-25 did not log particularly impressive wins, so Virginia has a solid case for taking the No. 21 spot with a Power 5 victory. (No. 23 Washington State is still playing at the time this article was published.)

Boise State also had a win more impressive than Iowa State. The Broncos entered the day No. 33 in votes and won 36-31 on the road at Florida State in a game moved due to Hurricane Dorian.

Cincinnati was No. 34 in votes and beat UCLA 24-14 to open the season. It’s not a particularly impressive victory, but still a win over a Power 5 team instead of an FCS team.

Memphis entered the day the equivalent of AP No. 40 and defeated Ole Miss 15-10. The Tigers were at home and Ole Miss did not receive any votes, but it’s another win that’s more impressive than beating an FCS squad by three points.

Michigan did not look particularly impressive against Middle Tennessee, but won 40-21. The voters are unlikely to punish a Wolverines squad they voted No. 7.

Nebraska is unlikely to get rewarded with a rankings boost after beating South Alabama only 35-21.
