Tennessee-Florida takes center stage in the SEC in Week 3, and it will be the closest of the 10 games featuring league teams on Saturday. On the other end of the spectrum, Kentucky runs into new East darling South Carolina and loses by two touchdowns.

Vanderbilt will prove Vegas odds-makers wrong and get to 3-0, LSU won’t have too much trouble against Mississippi State, and four SEC teams will win by at least four touchdowns.

For the 13 SEC teams in action this week, here are projections for margins of victory, ranked from losses/narrow wins to the biggest blowout.

Kentucky

Opponent: at South Carolina

Bovada line: +7

Prediction: Kentucky loses by 14

Why: Before the season began, Kentucky looked like the better team. Times have changed. The Wildcats have only won their first two games by an average of nine points.

Even though Mark Stoops is 3-1 against South Carolina while at Kentucky, he won’t be able to pull out this win. The Wildcats don’t have the offense to compete with the Gamecocks. That will be something they will have to improve moving forward if they want to reach another bowl game.

Mississippi State

Opponent: vs. LSU

Bovada line: +7

Prediction: Mississippi State loses by 10

Why: Yes, the Bulldogs are playing at home behind the greatness of Nick Fitzgerald, but LSU has a speedy defense that will contain him at times. Fitzgerald is great, but he was slowed down by the Tigers last season. He will play better at home this year, but it won’t be enough.

Though Mississippi State is coming off a dominating performance against Louisiana Tech, the confidence from Week 2’s win won’t be enough. Dan Mullen has only beaten LSU once (2014) in eight games since arriving at Mississippi State.

Florida

Opponent: vs. Tennessee

Bovada line: -5

Prediction: Florida loses by  1

Why: Jim McElwain is 1-1 versus Tennessee as the Gators’ head coach, but he will be 1-2 after the conclusion of the game. Florida is favored on Saturday, which doesn’t make sense considering the Gators’ offense has looked pathetic so far this season. Tennessee doesn’t have a spectacular defense, but it won’t need one to beat Florida.

Unless Florida’s numerous player suspensions are overturned, it’s hard to believe the Gators can win this game.

Tennessee

Opponent: at Florida

Bovada line: +5

Prediction: Tennessee wins by 1

Why: Tennessee gained confidence in this rivalry winning last season’s battle. Volunteers quarterback Quinten Dormady hasn’t looked great thus far, and The Swamp will be a huge test for him. Regardless, Dormady will be able to lean on his defense.

The Volunteers are also helped by their close win against Georgia Tech. This game will be close, and will likely come down to the final possession. Coach Butch Jones and Tennessee have already been tested in that situation, while the Gators have not.

Vanderbilt

Opponent: vs. Kansas State

Bovada line: +4

Prediction: Vanderbilt wins by 3

Why: Vanderbilt coach Derek Mason’s defense has looked ferocious to start 2017. That was expected. Quarterback Kyle Shurmur’s accuracy and decision making has been an added bonus.

Beating coach Bill Snyder and Kansas State won’t be easy, but the Commodores will pull it off. Derek Mason is slowly building this program back up, and this victory benefits the growth. No Commodores player will be looking ahead to Alabama next week.

Missouri

Opponent: vs. Purdue

Bovada line: -7

Prediction: Missouri wins by 6

Why: Defensive coordinator DeMontie Cross’s mid-season firing isn’t doing the Missouri defense any favors. In spite of the departure, the Tigers will be able to score enough to hold off the Boilermakers.

Purdue ranks outside of the top 100 in total defense. Drew Lock should be scoring points all night long for Missouri.

Ole Miss

Opponent: at California

Bovada line: -3 1/2

Prediction:  Ole Miss wins by 7

Why: Ole Miss is the better team, and it will show. Shea Patterson has been terrific to this point, and his brilliance will continue. Like Purdue, California’s defense has been abysmal so far, ranking outside the top 100 in total defense.

The Golden Bears won’t be able to stop Patterson and the Rebels’ high-octane attack. Ole Miss will give up some points, but will be backed up by the offense.

LSU

Opponent: at Mississippi State

Bovada line: -7

Prediction: LSU wins by 10

Why: New offensive coordinator Matt Canada has the perfect opportunity to showcase why he was hired against LSU’s first conference opponent of the season. Mississippi State doesn’t have a world-beater defense by any means, but scoring in Starkville won’t be a walk in the park. The Tigers haven’t turned the ball on offense yet, and that needs to continue.

LSU has been tested by a solid opponent in BYU, better than anyone Mississippi State has played so far. The Tigers are better, faster and have more depth. Even though the Bulldogs have the better quarterback in Nick Fitzgerald, his heroics won’t be enough to send LSU home angry.

South Carolina

Opponent: vs. Kentucky

Bovada line: -7

Prediction: South Carolina wins by 14

Why: Jake Bentley and Deebo Samuel might be the best 1-2 punch in the SEC. Bentley has been the surprise of the SEC, and he gets another chance to prove himself Saturday night in a important divisional game. Like other times this season, the sophomore quarterback will come through.

Coach Will Muschamp prides himself on the defensive prowess of his football teams, and that was evident against Missouri, where the Tigers struggled the majority of the game on offense. Kentucky is solid on defense this year too, but the Gamecocks have the better playmakers.

Texas A&M

Opponent: vs. Louisiana-Lafayette

Bovada line: -24

Prediction: Texas A&M wins by 28

Why: The Aggies looked disinterested during their win over Nicholls State. Coach Kevin Sumlin should have his team more primed for this game after that performance. Even though Texas A&M doesn’t have a quality quarterback, it wins this game handily.

Georgia

Opponent: vs. Samford

Bovada line: No line given against FCS teams

Prediction: Georgia wins by 45

Why: Quarterback Jake Fromm and Georgia earned a colossal win on the road versus Notre Dame. Now, the Bulldogs get a breather with Samford coming to town. Kirby Smart’s team takes care of business early in preparation for Mississippi State coming to visit in Week 4.

Alabama

Opponent: vs. Colorado State

Bovada line: -29

Prediction: Alabama wins by 49

Why: Nick Saban wasn’t too enthralled when a local media member told him his team played “so-so” last week against Fresno State. Though Colorado State is a better team than the Bulldogs, Saban is going to make sure his team dominates in Week 3. Alabama will cruise from the start.

Auburn

Opponent: vs. Mercer

Bovada line: No line given against FCS teams

Prediction: Auburn wins by 52

Why: Since arriving at Auburn, Gus Malzahn has outscored four FCS opponents by 145 points, or 36.25 per game, including wins by scores of 62-3 and 55-0. Saturday will not be out of the ordinary. The Auburn offense will have something to prove after putting only six points on the scoreboard versus Clemson.
