Mississippi State-Georgia will be the premiere game on Saturday’s Week 4 slate, with Dan Mullen’s squad coming away with a tight victory in the closest of eight SEC games Saturday. While people will experience a barn burner in Athens, fans in Columbia, Mo., won’t be so lucky, with Auburn cruising by Missouri.

Vanderbilt-Alabama will be the “SEC on CBS” game of the week, but it won’t live up to the billing many hope it achieves. The Crimson Tide pull away late in the fourth quarter but aren’t able to cover. Elsewhere, Arkansas blows it in Arlington against A&M by a touchdown in overtime again, a repeat of 2015.

Ole Miss is the only SEC team with a bye in Week 4. For the other 13 SEC teams in action this week, here are projections for margins of victory, ranked from losses/narrow wins to the biggest blowout.

13. Missouri

Opponent: vs. Auburn

Bovada line: +19

Prediction: Missouri loses by 24

Why: The wheels have come off the Missouri Tigers’ season. Losing to Purdue at home 35-3 is not exactly helping recruiting. Coach Barry Odom’s seat is starting to warm up a little bit in Columbia. Another blowout home loss will only increase the heat.

12. Vanderbilt

Opponent: vs. Alabama

Bovada line: +19 1/2

Prediction: Vanderbilt loses by 17

Why: Vanderbilt hasn’t beaten Alabama since 1984, losing 21 straight games. The Commodores have the defense to compete with Alabama. It’s their offense that will keep them from a giant win.

Kyle Shurmur has improved, but he doesn’t have the skill set of Deshaun Watson, Johnny Manziel, Cardale Jones and other quarterbacks who have beaten the Crimson Tide. SEC star running back Ralph Webb was stopped in his tracks against Kansas State and now faces a better defense. The Commodores give Alabama a fight until late, then the Crimson Tide pull away.

11. Kentucky

Opponent: vs. Florida

Bovada line: +3

Prediction: Kentucky loses by 10

Why: It’s hard to bet against a curse. Kentucky has lost the last 30 games against the Gators, with Mark Stoops coaching the most recent four. While the UK defense has been stout, quarterback Stephen Johnson has yet to find his rhythm.

Under Stoops, the Wildcats have lost the turnover battle 10-4 against the Gators. Turnovers haunt Kentucky again, and the streak reaches 31.

10. Arkansas

Opponent: vs. Texas A&M

Bovada line: +3

Prediction: Arkansas loses by 7 (in OT)

Why: Last year, Arkansas won on a miracle at TCU on the road. Many believed that win was the confidence boost needed for Bret Bielema’s Razorbacks to finally overcome the Aggies the following week. Instead, Trevor Knight trampled the Razorbacks’ defense on the way to a 45-24 A&M victory.

Aggies coach Kevin Sumlin will target Arkansas’ front seven with a rushing attack averaging 252 yards per game. TCU had no problem rushing the ball against Arkansas, and Texas A&M won’t hit much resistance either. The Razorbacks will keep the game close but, somehow, throw it away.

9. Georgia

Opponent: vs. Mississippi State

Bovada line: -5

Prediction: Georgia loses by 3

Why: Jake Fromm won a gutsy game at Notre Dame, giving Georgia fans hope for what 2017 has in store. He’ll have to prove himself even more this week.

Mississippi State defensive coordinator Todd Grantham knows Georgia’s strength lies in RBs Nick Chubb and Sony Michel. Grantham will load the box and make Fromm, a true freshman, win the game with his arm. The strategy pays off, and the visiting Bulldogs escape Athens with a win.

8. Mississippi State

Opponent: at Georgia

Bovada line: + 5

Prediction: Mississippi State wins by 3

Why: Mississippi State will be confident after its monster divisional win over LSU. Nick Fitzgerald helped his Heisman campaign against the Tigers and now has an even bigger opportunity to showcase his ability — on the road in a rowdy environment against a quality defense. While Fitzgerald soaks up most of the spotlight, Aeris Williams and the Bulldogs’ offensive line also have been tremendous and will be crucial in defeating a tough Georgia team.

Since Dan Mullen took over Mississippi State in 2009, he has only played Georgia twice, winning in 2010 and losing in 2011. The visiting Bulldogs get the edge with the more talented quarterback.

7. Texas A&M

Opponent: vs. Arkansas

Bovada line: -3

Prediction: Texas A&M wins by 7 (in OT)

Why: Yes, Texas A&M has looked awful this season, but so has Arkansas. Even without a dynamic quarterback, the Aggies will be able to overpower Arkansas with a strong running game. Running back Trayveon Williams had over 150 yards and two touchdowns in 2016 against the Razorbacks.

Kevin Sumlin is a perfect 5-0 against Razorbacks since taking over the Aggies’ program in 2012. Arkansas will find a way to give the victory to Texas A&M and (temporarily) take some heat off Sumlin.

6. Florida

Opponent: at Kentucky

Bovada line: -3

Prediction: Florida wins by 10

Why: Jim McElwain is 2-0 against Mark Stoops as the Gators’ head coach, and he will be 3-0 after Saturday. Florida will rely on its defense and special teams, which will be matched against an underachieving Wildcats offense.

Under McElwain, the Florida offense hasn’t been pretty, but the Gators have found ways to win ugly. They haven’t lost to Kentucky since 1986 — and 31 in a row is inevitable.

5. South Carolina

Opponent: vs. Louisiana Tech

Bovada line: -8 1/2

Prediction: South Carolina wins by 14

Why: Louisiana Tech has already been crushed by one SEC opponent this season, losing 57-21 to Mississippi State in Week 2. Now, Tech gets a shot at another SEC opponent, this time on the road.

Jake Bentley will be without favorite target Deebo Samuel, making the Gamecocks easier to defend. Back at Williams-Brice a week after its crushing loss to Kentucky, Will Muschamp’s squad won’t dominate but will take care of business.

4. Alabama

Opponent: at Vanderbilt

Bovada line: -19 1/2

Prediction: Alabama wins by 17

Why:  The teams have only met twice during Nick Saban’s tenure as the Crimson Tide’s head coach, which began in 2007. Alabama won both games, and 2017 won’t be much different. The Tide are going to win this game regardless, but Vanderbilt’s Nifae Lealao gave them even more incentive.

The Alabama offense will have a difficult time attacking the Commodores, who are the best scoring defense in the country. But eventually Jalen Hurts and company will tire the Commodores.

3. Auburn

Opponent: at Missouri

Bovada line: -20

Prediction: Auburn wins by 24

Why: The last time these teams faced off was in Atlanta during the 2013 SEC Championship. Auburn was the victor then and will be Saturday too. Though the Tigers looked uninterested against Mercer at home last week, Gus Malzahn’s team will respond in its first conference game with a dominating performance.

2. LSU

Opponent: vs. Syracuse

Bovada line: No line listed

Prediction: LSU wins by 28

Why: LSU only beat Syracuse 34-24 back in 2015 inside the Carrier Dome, the Orange’s home field. Now, the Tigers get Syracuse at home in a night game, where “opponents’ dreams come to die.” LSU running back Derrius Guice’s status won’t affect the Tigers too much.

The Mississippi State loss is going to ignite LSU, especially the defense. Syracuse starting quarterback Eric Dungey had a successful outing against Central Michigan last week. The Tigers defense won’t be so kind.

1. Tennessee

Opponent: vs. UMass

Bovada line: -28

Prediction: Tennessee wins by 31

Why: Butch Jones and the Volunteers are going to take out their frustrations on UMass. The Minutemen have given up an average of 187 rushing yards per game this season. John Kelly will continue to climb NFL draft rankings with another outstanding performance.
