Mississippi State heading down to Auburn, Ala., to face the Tigers is the featured barn burner in Week 5, with the home crowd leaving the game happy after a tightly contested win. Alabama fans almost three hours away will watch their Crimson Tide destroy Ole Miss inside Bryant-Denny Stadium, giving Alabama the most lopsided win in the SEC this week.

Tennessee will fall to Georgia at home in a close battle, giving Volunteers fans another reason to wish Butch Jones be pushed out the door. Florida finds a way to win Saturday, despite the offense not clicking entirely.

Missouri is the only SEC team with a bye in Week 5. For the other 13 SEC teams in action this week, here are projections for margins of victory, ranked from losses/narrow wins to the biggest blowout.

13. Ole Miss

Opponent: at Alabama

Bovada line: +28

Prediction: Ole Miss loses by 35

Why: Yes, these games have been decided by only 17 points in the last three contests, but the circumstances have changed. For whatever reason, Hugh Freeze outcoached Nick Saban in the last few matchups. Now, Saban gets to face rookie coach Matt Luke, and that doesn’t bode well for the Rebels. Even if A.J. Brown is able to play, Ole Miss loses badly.

12. South Carolina

Opponent: at Texas A&M

Bovada line: +8

Prediction: South Carolina loses by 21

Why: With Deebo Samuel, the Gamecocks had a shot to win the SEC East. Without him, they aren’t the same team. Jake Bentley and the offense haven’t looked as explosive.

The Gamecocks’ defense is solid but will need some help from the offense to compete with the Aggies in College Station. Will Muschamp lost to Texas A&M in his inaugural season at South Carolina in 2016. He’ll move to 0-2, and South Carolina will move to 0-4 versus the Aggies.

11. Tennessee

Opponent: vs. Georgia

Bovada line: +8

Prediction: Tennessee loses by 10

Why: Jones and Tennessee were a play away from losing this game in Sanford Stadium last season. The Volunteers don’t have Josh Dobbs or Jauan Jennings to save them in this one. After losing a heart-breaker to Florida, the Volunteers came out flat in Week 4 against UMass and only won 17-13 in a game they were heavily favored.

Georgia freshman quarterback Jake Fromm has already seen a tough environment inside Notre Dame Stadium and came out victorious. Fromm will pull off a similar feat in Neyland Stadium. Jones isn’t jumping for joy after this one.

10. Vanderbilt

Opponent: at Florida

Bovada line: +10

Prediction: Vanderbilt loses by 7

Why: The Commodores will be dejected after losing 59-0 to Alabama. Mason is 0-3 against Florida with two of the games against McElwain, though those two losses have been by a combined nine points.

In the last 26 meetings, Vanderbilt has won once. The Commodores will come close Saturday, but they don’t have the intangibles to beat the Gators.

9. Mississippi State

Opponent: at Auburn

Bovada line: +10

Prediction: Mississippi State loses by 3

Why: As the Mississippi State coach, Dan Mullen is 2-2 against Gus Malzahn as the head coach at Auburn. As good as the Bulldogs’ offense looked against LSU, it looked pathetic against Georgia. Mississippi State quarterback Nick Fitzgerald will be fired up after the offense was held to single digits last week.

His efforts won’t be enough against a stingy Auburn defense that has only allowed a little over 11 points per game.

8. Auburn

Opponent: vs. Mississippi State

Bovada line: -10

Prediction: Auburn wins by 3

Why: The Tigers have been dominant at stopping the run this season, and those efforts will be needed again on Saturday. Fitzgerald will be looking to right the ship, but the Auburn defense won’t let him.

Just like Clemson did, Mississippi State will struggle to get anything going against the Tigers. Quarterback Jarrett Stidham gains confidence with a better performance at home. With Kamryn Pettway and Kerryon Johnson both expected to play, Auburn keeps its SEC West title hopes alive with a big win.

7. Florida

Opponent: vs. Vanderbilt

Bovada line: -10

Prediction: Florida wins by 7

Why: Florida’s offense jelled better with Luke Del Rio at quarterback, but the Gators will still rely on their defense to win Saturday. They have had found bizarre ways to win under coach Jim McElwain. This victory won’t be any prettier.

6. Georgia

Opponent: at Tennessee

Bovada line: -8

Prediction: Georgia wins by 10

Why: Georgia is playing the best of all SEC East teams and smacked Mississippi State 31-3 last week. Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs have a great shot to prove that they belong in the College Football Playoff conversation. Smart will have his team watch last year’s game over and over again to get them fired up.

Georgia shut down Heisman candidate Nick Fitzgerald, who torched LSU in Week 3. Stopping John Kelly and making Quinten Dormady throw will be the game plan. It’s a close game in Neyland Stadium, but the Bulldogs pull away late with a superior defense.

5. Arkansas

Opponent: vs. New Mexico State

Bovada line: -17

Prediction: Arkansas wins by 14

Why: This might be the last win the Razorbacks get for a while. Losing their only veteran wide receiver, Jared Cornelius, is going to hinder improvement on offense. The Razorbacks’ defense gets a break against a lesser opponent after giving 50 points to Texas A&M, but New Mexico State keeps the game closer than expected.

4. Kentucky

Opponent: Eastern Michigan

Bovada line: -14 1/2

Prediction: Kentucky wins by 17

Why: Eastern Michigan has scored a meager 20 points per game this season. The Wildcats will gobble up the visiting Eagles with a defense holding opponents to less than 19 points on average. Kentucky will respond with a win after blowing the game against Florida in Week 4.

3. Texas A&M

Opponent: vs. South Carolina

Bovada line: -8

Prediction: Texas A&M wins by 21

Why: The Aggies earned a vital win against Arkansas in Week 4. Now, they get a depleted Gamecocks team at home. Kellen Mond showed what he can do in the open field and should have opportunities on Saturday.

South Carolina’s offense has slipped without Samuel. Texas A&M defensive coordinator John Chavis will lock down Gamecocks tight end Hayden Hurst, leaving Bentley without many options. The “12th man” remains happy for now.

2. LSU

Opponent: vs. Troy

Bovada line: -20 1/2

Prediction: LSU wins by 24

Why: Coach Ed Orgeron’s team hasn’t lived up to its potential in 2017. Getting crushed by Mississippi State and only beating Syracuse by nine is not the recipe to please Tigers fans. LSU will finish against non-conference opponents 4-0 with a win versus Troy before entering the meat of its schedule.

1. Alabama

Opponent: vs. Ole Miss

Bovada line: -28

Prediction: Alabama wins by 35

Why: Alabama crushed Vanderbilt 59-0 in Week 4 and played its best game of the season to this point. Now, the Crimson Tide cross paths with a team they have had trouble with of late — Ole Miss. Rebels quarterback Shea Patterson is talented, he doesn’t have the pieces around him like Chad Kelly and Bo Wallace did. Saban will begin his career record over Luke at 1-0.
