The LSU-Florida matchup has the spotlight heading into Week 6 and will be the closest contest of the six SEC games played Saturday. Arkansas and LSU will win tight games on the road, while the the two Alabama schools — Alabama and Auburn — win easily.

This week, every SEC game is a conference matchup, which should heat up the competition and shrink the margins of victory. We’ll see.

Mississippi State and Tennessee both have byes after devastating losses in Week 5. For the other 12 SEC teams in action this week, here are projections for margins of victory, ranked from losses/narrow wins to the biggest blowout.

12. Texas A&M

Opponent: vs. Alabama

Bovada line: +27

Prediction: Texas A&M loses by 35

Why: In his first season, Kevin Sumlin found success versus Nick Saban, beating him in Tuscaloosa. Sumlin hasn’t had any luck since and his fortunes won’t change in 2017. Kellen Mond is talented, but a true freshman quarterback isn’t going to beat Alabama.

11. Ole Miss

Opponent: at Auburn

Bovada line: +21 1/2

Prediction: Ole Miss loses by 24

Why: Shea Patterson is a wasted talent right now. He simply doesn’t have the weapons or coaching around him to adequately take advantage of his abilities.

Things don’t get easier for Patterson and first-year coach Matt Luke, as the Rebels head down to Auburn, Ala., to face the Tigers. Auburn might have a better defense than Alabama, and that doesn’t bode well for Ole Miss, which only put up three points against the Crimson Tide.

10. Vanderbilt

Opponent: vs. Georgia

Bovada line: +18

Prediction: Vanderbilt loses by 21

Why: Saying Ralph Webb, Khari Blasingame and the offensive line have underwhelmed would be an understatement. The Commodores are averaging less than 80 rushing yards per game. Considering their talent, it makes you wonder what’s going on in Nashville.

Vanderbilt’s season is eroding quickly, and any remaining SEC East title dreams will come crashing down with a third straight conference loss. Georgia steps on the gas early and doesn’t let up.

9. Missouri

Opponent: at Kentucky

Bovada line: +10

Prediction: Missouri loses by 9

Why: The Tigers have lost three straight and looked awful as of late. Missouri might be able to keep it close, but it doesn’t have the talent or momentum to pull off an upset. Barry Odom will fall to 0-2 versus Mark Stoops.

8. South Carolina

Opponent: vs. Arkansas

Bovada line: +2

Prediction: South Carolina loses by 7

Why: The Gamecocks’ offense hasn’t looked the same without Deebo Samuel. South Carolina needs firepower to compete with Arkansas, and it doesn’t have enough. The Gamecocks rank outside the top 100 in scoring offense, while the Razorbacks are in the top 40.

Will Muschamp has one win over Arkansas as a head coach, back in 2013 when he was the head coach of the Florida Gators. This close loss will bring him to an even 1-1 against the Razorbacks.

7. Florida

Opponent: vs. LSU

Bovada line: No line listed

Prediction: Florida loses by 3

Why: Just when the Gators’ offense began to find some rhythm against Vanderbilt, Luke Del Rio suffered a season-ending injury. Feleipe Franks assumes the starting quarterback role again after losing it to Del Rio. The change will hurt the progression of the offense.

This game has been decided by an average of seven points per contest the last five years. Florida has gotten a couple of breaks to begin conference play — see Tennessee, Kentucky. The Gators won’t be so lucky when the Tigers visit on Saturday afternoon.

6. LSU

Opponent: at Florida

Bovada line: No line listed

Prediction: LSU wins by 3

Why: Remember LSU’s disastrous loss last season against the Gators, after the Tigers had four chances to score inside the 7-yard line? Ed Orgeron has nightmares about it. That loss will fuel him and his team to earn sweet revenge in Gainesville.

The Tigers have looked soft this season and Derrius Guice hasn’t been at full strength. Despite these bad signs, LSU steps up to the challenge and hands Florida its first conference loss. CBS gets another ugly game, but it’s a close one.

5. Arkansas

Opponent: at South Carolina

Bovada line: -2

Prediction: Arkansas wins by 7

Why: The last time these two teams played, Steve Spurrier’s Gamecocks crushed Arkansas in Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium. The game took place during the Razorbacks’ homecoming weekend during Bret Bielema’s first season. It’s been a while, but a hunch says Bielema hasn’t forgotten.

His team will be primed after looking better on offense versus New Mexico State. Austin Allen won’t have to worry about a ton of pressure from the Gamecocks, who only have eight sacks on the season. Due to the time in the pocket, Allen has a big day leading Arkansas to a much-needed road win.

4. Kentucky

Opponent: vs. Missouri

Bovada line: -10

Prediction: Kentucky wins by 9

Why: Kentucky can’t seem to win the easy games by large margins. It only beat Eastern Michigan by four points last week, a game the Wildcats should have dominated.

Kentucky’s offense isn’t elite, and that makes it hard for the Wildcats to blow out lackluster teams. Mark Stoops’ squad will win, but Missouri will be able to stick around.

3. Georgia

Opponent:  at Vanderbilt

Bovada line: -18

Prediction: Georgia wins by 21

Why: Vanderbilt has struggled to run the ball and the Bulldogs have only given up 90 rushing yards per game. On the other end, the Commodores have given up over 700 rushing yards in their two conference games. Nick Chubb, Sony Michel and others will run all over the Commodores’ 108th-ranked rushing defense.

True freshman Jake Fromm has already won in two rowdy environments this season — Notre Dame Stadium and Neyland Stadium. He won’t be fazed by an okay crowd in Nashville.

2. Auburn

Opponent: vs. Ole Miss

Bovada line: -21 1/2

Prediction: Auburn wins by 24

Why: Many jumped off the Auburn train after it lost Clemson, but the Tigers are starting to gain believers back after a 49-10 throttling of Mississippi State. Jarrett Stidham only threw three incompletions last week and is starting to gain some confidence.

The Rebels are going to deal with the downside of playing a confident quarterback. Stidham and the Tigers will take care of business at home early.

1. Alabama

Opponent: at Texas A&M

Bovada line: +27

Prediction: Alabama wins by 35

Why: Alabama is riding high into Week 6 after a dominating 66-3 win over Ole Miss and now travels down to College Station. The Crimson Tide haven’t lost to the Aggies since 2012, winning four consecutive games by an average of about 21 points.

Jalen Hurts threw two interceptions in this game last season, and Alabama still won by 19 points. Hurts and the offense are better and without a turnover through five games in 2017. The Crimson Tide will steamroll the Aggies in this one.
