Report: Former Heisman winner Jameis Winston nearing deal with new NFL squad
After Teddy Bridgewater signed with the Carolina Panthers this offseason, the New Orleans Saints were in the market for a backup quarterback.
Now, according to reports, it appears they’re nearing a 1-year deal with a former NFC South rival.
Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter and others, former Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston is expected to sign with New Orleans for the 2020 season:
Former Bucs’ Jameis Winston and the Saints have been discussing a deal that @CharlesRobinson reports is being finalized. Winston and the Saints now looks close to being a reality.

By doing a 1-year deal with the Saints, Jameis Winston would get to learn and be around Sean Payton, Drew Brees and others. He would fill the role that Teddy Bridgewater did in last season before he left for Carolina. With no other staring jobs, it would be an ideal landing spot.

Winston was displaced in Tampa Bay this offseason by the legendary Tom Brady, but even before Brady signed, there were questions about whether the Bucs would want to keep Winston around or not.
Winston put up a truly bizarre stat line in 2019, throwing for 5,109 yards, 33 touchdowns and a whopping 30 interceptions. He’s the only NFL quarterback ever to throw for 30 touchdowns and 30 interceptions in a single season.
