Alabama graduate transfer defensive back Maurice Smith is being aggressively pursued by Georgia and according to AL.com. Miami, Maryland and USC are joining the Bulldogs’ pursuit.

Matt Zenitz of AL.com said, “Coach Mark Richt and Miami have been particularly aggressive and have been in contact daily, according to a source. Helping both Georgia and Maryland are relationships Smith has from his time with the Tide.”

Kirby Smart, the Bulldogs’ new head coach, was Smith’s defensive coordinator at Alabama. Smith never started for the Crimson Tide, but in the team’s spring game in April, he was listed as the first-team nickel back.

Smith ranked second on the team in 2015 with seven special teams tackles and was named as one of the special teams players of the week by the Tide’s coaching staff against Middle Tennessee and Texas A&M.
