Don’t count on seeing Lane Kiffin in Baton Rouge just yet.

Sources tell ESPN that Kiffin and former LSU coach Les Miles have emerged as candidates to replace Tom Herman at Houston. Ever since the interim tag was taken off Orgeron’s job title, there have been persistent rumors of a reunion with Kiffin. The two coached together as assistants for Pete Carroll at Southern Cal and Orgeron served as an assistant on Kiffin’s staffs at Tennessee and USC.

The Kiffin to LSU rumors kicked into high gear when LSU offered a scholarship to Alabama QB commit Tua Tagovailoa, prompting Tigers QB pledge Myles Brennan to reopen his recruitment. While Fox Sports’ Bruce Feldman gave Kiffin to LSU a 75 percent chance of happening, ESPN’s Paul Finebaum noted that the Houston job would likely appeal to Kiffin.

Brennan originally committed to Miles and Cam Cameron at LSU. Ongoing issues with the offense and the quarterback position played a large part in Miles’ dismissal from the Tigers. The coach of the 2007 BCS Champions has stated a willingness to adapt on offense at his next position.

Miles is reported to be intrigued by working in a state he’s familiar with from recruiting for LSU and previously Oklahoma State. Houston Board of Regents Chairman Tilman Fertitta indicated that the two parties have mutual interest Wednesday.
