While Scott Satterfield from Appalachian State appears to be a frontrunner in Louisville’s search to be the next coach to replace Bobby Petrino, another name has surfaced on the list of Athletics Director Vince Tyra.
A source told FootballScoop that Maryland interim coach Matt Canada is speaking with Tyra today. Canada has received positive reviews with the way he’s coached and led the Maryland program this season following the offseason death of Jordan McNair and subsequent investigation that led to the firing of head coach D.J. Durkin.
Tyra’s meetings with these coaches come after Purdue coach Jeff Brohm turned down the Cardinals, his hometown team and alma mater, to stay with the Boilermakers.
Before Maryland, Canada spent one year as LSU’s offensive coordinator, one year at Pitt, three seasons at N.C. State, one as Wisconsin, and one at Northern Illinois in similar roles.
Satterfield reportedly met with Tyra following the Sun Belt championship, as the AD looked to get to know the App State coach. Canada, meanwhile, is also reportedly a finalist for the Maryland job.
