Midwestern State University’s football team received heartbreaking news Tuesday evening.

It was reported Tuesday night that injured football player Robert Grays passed away as a result of an injury sustained during MSU’s game Saturday. Andy Newberry with the Times Record News reported the story.

Grays, a sophomore football player, suffered a neck injury late in Saturday’s game against Texas A&M-Kingsville. He was moved to a medical facility in Houston on Sunday where he is closer to his family.

A prayer vigil was held for Grays on Monday evening, and Grays passed away sometime on Tuesday evening.

The injury is the worst fear of everyone who plays the game of football. It is an absolute tragedy, and many people responded to the loss on Twitter.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Grays’ family.
