The Ohio State Buckeyes are embroiled in a major scandal, as head coach Urban Meyer has been placed on administrative leave as officials try to figure out what he knew about an alleged domestic violence incident involving former assistant Zach Smith.

The school has been conducting an investigation, but it is apparently doing so without AD Gene Smith on campus.

According to ABC 6, Smith is currently on vacation. Per a statement from Director of Media and Public Relations Ben Johnson, Smith will be available to speak with the investigative team if and when the need arises:

“He is available to speak with the investigative team. The university is focused on supporting our student-athletes as they prepare for the upcoming semester. We can’t comment further during the pending investigation,” said Johnson on Thursday afternoon in an email.

Obviously, this isn’t a great look for Smith and the Buckeyes, but this whole situation has been ugly.

Smith is going to walk back into a mess when he returns from vacation.
