What a weekend of sports we have coming up! The festivities got started Thursday with Round 1 of the 2020 NFL Draft, and Rounds 2 and 3 will take place tonight, followed by Rounds 4-7 on Saturday.

Then, there’s the Michael Jordan documentary, which took the world by storm last Sunday. No, it isn’t exactly live sports, but it’s way better than nothing.

As my SDS colleague Connor O’Gara tweeted, cherish it while we have it:

Now, let’s take a look at your questions for this week’s SDS Mailbag:

@MichaelJtr8:

Who was the steal of the first round of the NFL Draft?

As much as I hate to admit it as a Green Bay Packers fan, I’d be absolutely ecstatic if I were a Minnesota Vikings fan. Getting Justin Jefferson — the LSU star receiver — at No. 22 was an incredible value.

I was hoping he’d fall to the Packers at No. 30. Instead, he went to one of the Packers’ biggest rivals at No. 22. Ouch. I am absolutely not looking forward to rooting against him.

Other value picks that I liked were Jerry Jeudy at No. 15 to the Broncos (he and Drew Lock are an awesome combo), CeeDee Lamb to the Cowboys and Patrick Queen to the Ravens. Queen and the Ravens are a perfect fit.

Still, I can’t believe Jefferson fell to the Vikings. I’m not going to get over that any time soon.

Robert:

Who is your top player remaining on the NFL Draft board entering Day 2?

I am shocked that LSU CB Kristian Fulton didn’t hear his name called. The way he held his own against guys like Tee Higgins, Henry Ruggs III and Jerry Jeudy speaks for itself. He’s a heck of a player, and if I’m the Cincinnati Bengals (who have the first pick in Round 2 today), I’d take a long look at him.

Speaking of Higgins, I’m surprised he also is still on the board. I was hoping the Packers would take him to give Aaron Rodgers another weapon. Instead, the Packers went with a quarterback. I’m still not sure how I feel with that pick.

Then there’s D’Andre Swift, who is a very versatile back. Whoever gets him is getting a guy who can do it all on the field. There are so many talented players remaining. This really was a loaded draft class. I’m honestly just as excited for Rounds 2 and 3 as I was for the first round Thursday.

@Dobbe8:

Looking ahead to next year’s draft, who would you rather take at No. 1 overall — Justin Fields or Trevor Lawrence?

That’s a good question. Lawrence seems like the favorite, but Fields is an elite prospect, as well. The answer will come down to which team gets the No. 1 overall pick.

For example, I don’t expect the Packers (my favorite team) to be in the No. 1 spot, but if they were and needed a QB, Lawrence would be a much better fit for their system under Aaron Rodgers. If the San Francisco 49ers had the No. 1 pick for some reason, Fields would be a better fit.

(I was talking with fellow SDS writer Mike Bratton the other day, and we agreed Jalen Hurts could be a really interesting option in the 49ers offense. Giving a guy like Kyle Shanahan a versatile QB like Hurts to work with would be flat-out dangerous.)

However, for right now, I’ll answer your question by saying Lawrence. I love his game and he’s the more “traditional” option at quarterback. Things could certainly change during the 2020 season, though.

@SChinni12:

Why is ESPN making us wait a whole week for the next 2 “The Last Dance” episodes?

I’m going to go on a bit of a rant here, so bear with me. I loved “The Last Dance.” I was a huge Michael Jordan fan growing up in Illinois, and that second three-peat (1996-98) made up some formative sports memories for me.

Those first 2 episodes were incredible, but I’m actually glad we have to wait a bit for the next episodes this Sunday. I’m not a fan of the binge-watching culture. If all 10 episodes were released last Sunday, there would have been people who had finished them all by midday Monday.

That’s too much. We’re so impatient too often. It’s nice to have to wait for this. It really is like sports. The NFL doesn’t release all 16 of a team’s games at once. No, you play 1 game a week and then have 6 days to react to that game.

I’ve loved all the reaction pieces. Here at SDS, Connor O’Gara (another Illinois native like me) has been doing a great job reacting to the documentary. It’s nice to have that time to let the first 2 episodes breathe. I, for one, can’t wait to see what these next episodes bring!

OK, end of rant. Enjoy the next 2 hours of MJ drama on Sunday!
