I’m writing this week’s column live from Turks and Caicos, on a balcony overlooking the ocean. Not a bad view from the office this week.

It’s nice to get away from home for a little bit and relax and unplug (this is the only column I’m writing this week because your questions are too important to take a week off!).

Fortunately, though, I’ve already located the nearest sports bar, so watching Auburn’s Final Four matchup against Virginia on Saturday will be doable. I’ve already met people from South Carolina (Clemson fans, unfortunately) and College Station. I also saw a guy on the beach wearing a Georgia shirt.

Will this bar end up being an Auburn bar? Who knows? Maybe I can get an “S-E-C!” chant going if the Tigers pull off the upset, though. Anyway, here are your questions this week:

@Dobbe8:

When it comes to SEC quarterbacks, it seems Jake Bentley is often overrated and Jake Fromm is somewhat underrated. Who do you think is the most underrated returning SEC quarterback?

I think you’re absolutely right about Bentley and Fromm. Bentley is a solid quarterback, don’t get me wrong, but his progression hasn’t been what many think it should be. Meanwhile, Fromm doesn’t have the flashy numbers in Georgia’s offense, but he does what his team needs him to do to win games.

However, I don’t think he’s the most underrated. For that, I think we need to look to Knoxville, where Jarrett Guarantano is flying way too far under the radar at Tennessee. The Vols have been bad the past couple of years, but Guarantano took a huge step forward last season.

If he can improve on his 2018 numbers (1,907 passing yards, 12 touchdowns, 3 interceptions), the Vols should make a bowl game this fall. I think he has developed into a heck of a player and a leader for the Vols, and it’ll be interesting to see how he fares this year.

Honorable mention to Feleipe Franks at Florida, who is seemingly constantly in a fight for his job, but keeps on plugging away and getting better. He threw 24 TD passes last year. He’ll have more competition in 2019, but for now, he’s a great option for the Gators.

Robert:

Which deep-pocketed Texas A&M hire do you think was better — Jimbo Fisher for the football team or Buzz Williams for hoops?

I really like Buzz Williams as a coach. He’s done great work at Marquette and at Virginia Tech. Now that he’s back in his native Texas, I think he’ll do great work for the Aggies and could turn them into a top-tier team in the SEC.

However, Fisher is the answer here. Yes, the Aggies invested a huge amount of money (10 years and $75 million) in the former Florida State coach, but football is still king in Texas. Fisher has a title pedigree and is already doing big things on the recruiting trail for the Aggies.

Nick Saban isn’t going to be at Alabama forever, and though he’s set the Tide up to continue to have success after he’s gone, but don’t be surprised if the SEC West starts running through College Station in the next few years.

@SChinni12:

Would you rather take a charge from Zion Williamson in basketball gear or be tackled by former Alabama LB Mack Wilson wearing football pads?

I know Duke is out of the tournament, and many are sick of talking about Zion, but he’s going to be the No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft and he’s a beast of a man. However, Mack Wilson might end up being a first- or second-round pick in the NFL Draft this month, so he’s no slouch either.

Wilson can absolutely destroy people (just ask Speedy Noil) and is one of the hardest hitters in football:

So, to me, this question is about protection. Yes, I’d be more protected in full football pads, but Wilson would also be able to hit me harder because he’s wearing gear of his own. For that reason, I’m going to say I’d rather take a charge from Zion.

Now, I just need to start doing more neck exercises so I can avoid having my head smack against the court when he plows me over like a Jeep going 10 mph.

@HReside:

Which Final Four mascot would you most want to star with in a buddy cop show? Who would be the good cop and who would be the bad cop?

This one is a no-doubter. I’m going to go with Raider Red of Texas Tech. I mean, look at this guy and tell me he isn’t the bad cop to my good cop in the buddy cop show:

Michael C. Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

While I’m trying to play things by the book, he’ll be the loose cannon, using a patented “shoot first, ask questions later” brand of Texas justice. With Will Ferrell playing our no-nonsense, yet still somehow goofy, captain, we’ll have a bunch of hilarious hijinks throughout the show.

CBS is trotting out a show on Sundays in primetime called “God Friended Me,” so I have to think this idea actually has a chance to get made. Let’s get the network executives on it! I assume many of them read my mailbag every week.
