Happy Super Bowl week! The big game is only a couple of days away, pitting the San Francisco 49ers against the Kansas City Chiefs.

As a Mizzou grad, I’ve been to Arrowhead Stadium to watch my Tigers play Kansas (back in the good ol’ days of the late 2000s and early 2010s) and to see a couple of Chiefs games, so I’m rooting for Kansas City.

Can Patrick Mahomes and Co. take down the Niners? I’ll be watching, and based on some of your questions this week, it seems a number of you will be, too.

Here are your questions for this week’s Mailbag:

@MichaelJtr8:

What’s your favorite Super Bowl snack and drink?

I can’t wait to make my favorite Super Bowl snack on Sunday. I love making bacon-wrapped smokies every year for the game. Here’s what you need:

  • 1 package of cocktail sausages
  • 1 pound of bacon (thick-cut usually works a bit better)
  • 1 cup of brown sugar

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Cut the bacon into thirds (or however much it takes to wrap around the smokies once). Dip a bunch of toothpicks into a bowl of water (which stops them from burning in the oven) and stick them through each bacon wrapped smokie. Set on a large baking sheet and then cover with brown sugar. Bake for 30-40 minutes until the sugar starts to bubble. Then, put them in a crockpot on a low setting to keep them warm throughout the game.

As for my favorite gameday drink, I’ll go with one that has a bit of red in it to honor both the 49ers and Chiefs. It’s called a Paper Plane, and here’s how you make it:

  • ¾ ounce bourbon
  • ¾ ounce Aperol
  • ¾ ounce amaro
  • ¾ ounce fresh-squeezed lemon juice

Combine it all in a shaker with ice and shake vigorously, then strain it into a glass. Garnish with a lemon zest twist, if you want. Then enjoy!

@UsuallyWrong_:

Should you watch the Super Bowl drunk or sober? And should you watch with friends or alone?

Well, after including my favorite drink recipe above, I can assure you I won’t be fully sober while watching the Super Bowl. I think it’s best to have a nice buzz going when watching the big game. Not fully drunk, but a couple of drinks in.

And unless my beloved Green Bay Packers are in the game, I love watching with friends. If the Packers were in it this year, I’m sure I’d be too nervous to be pleasant around company. But, since they’re not in it, my wife and I will be hosting a decent-sized party Sunday.

@SChinni12:

I saw a tweet saying that a primetime ad on the new ACC Network only costs $100. What would be the best trolling commercials that SEC fans could run?

Well, ESPN owns both the SEC and ACC networks, so I doubt the company would allow much trolling to take place. Otherwise, I’d say the SEC should run endless “It Just Means More” commercials during every Duke basketball game.

With prices like that, though, maybe we here at SDS should start airing some ads. Heck, we already have dozens of Clemson fans who can’t wait to comment on every single thing we post.

I volunteer myself and my corgi, Moneypenny, to participate in the SDS commercial. With the $100 needed to buy the ad space, I think I could produce an ad for a budget of $200. Coming soon to the ACC Network? We’ll see!

@DawgFan12765925:

What coach in the SEC wins a poker tournament? Wing-eating contest? American Ninja Warrior?

The wing-eating contest is an easy one. Give me Coach O all day, every day. I don’t even think it would be close. The spicier, the better, too. With how much gumbo and other spicy Cajun food I’m sure he eats, hot wings wouldn’t faze him at all.

As far as the American Ninja Warrior course goes, I have a hard time picking against Vanderbilt’s Derek Mason. Mason is one of the most intense coaches in the country, and he’s also, along with Florida’s Dan Mullen, one of the fittest SEC coaches. I’ll give the edge to Mason because of his killer mentality.

Finally, we come to the poker tournament. I think it would be foolish to bet against (see what I did there?) Nick Saban. Saban would win, but I think Eliah Drinkwitz and Lane Kiffin would be right there with him at the final table. The more I think about it, the more I actually want the 14 coaches to play poker together at SEC Media Days. Let’s make it happen!
