With another weekend of college football in the books, the SEC league office has officially named its Week 3 SEC Players of the Week:

Offensive Player of the Week – Nick Fitzgerald, QB, Mississippi State

  • The junior QB completed 15 of 23 passes for 180 yards and 2 TDs in win over No. 11 LSU
  • He added 88 yards rushing and 2 TDs.
  • Surpassed Don Smith for second place on MSU’s career touchdowns responsible for with 55.

Defensive Player of the Week – Derrick Baity Jr., CB, Kentucky

  • Responsible for three takeaways in Kentucky’s 23-13 win over South Carolina.
  • Recorded two fourth down stops and snagged an interception to go with eight tackles.
  • Kentucky limited the Gamecocks to 54 yards rushing to mark the first time in nine years that the Wildcats have gone three straight games without allowing 100  yards on the ground.

Defensive Player of the Week – LaDarius Wiley, S, Vanderbilt

  • Recorded a career-high 11 tackles to go with an interception in the Commodores upset win over No. 18 Kansas State.
  • Vanderbilt’s defense limited the potent KSU offense to just 277 total yards and seven points.
  • Wiley and the Commodores are 3-0 for the first time since 2011 while leading the nation in points allowed per game (4.3)

Special Teams Player of the Week – Austin McGinnis, K, Kentucky

  • Responsible for 11 points by going 3 for 3 on field goal attempts and making two PATs in the Wildcats 23-13 win over South Carolina.
  • Fields goals came from 27, 44, and 21 yards.
  • McGinnis was able to keep his kickoffs out of the hands of South Carolina’s dynamic return man Deebo Samuel.

Freshman of the Week – C.J. Henderson, DB, Florida

  • Recorded a pick-six in Florida’s win over Tennessee, the second of his young career.
  • Is already tied for the Gators single-season record for interceptions returned for a touchdown with two. The all-time record at Florida is four.
  • The Gators defense intercepted Tennessee QB Quinten Dormady three times, including one in the red zone.

Offensive Lineman of the Week – Darryl Williams, OL Mississippi State

  • Was the highest graded OL (99%) in MSU’s 37-7 win over No. 11 LSU.
  • Accounted for three knockdowns against the Tigers while leading a rushing attack that gained 285 yards .

Defensive Lineman of the Week – Jeffery Simmons, DL, Mississippi State

  • Set career-highs in tackles (7) and sacks (1.5) in the win over LSU.
  • Contributed two QB hurries and helped the Bulldogs defense limit LSU to 133 yards rushing.
