Several SEC teams have already finished their 1st round of holiday tournaments, with Florida taking home the Charleston Classic trophy. However, others get started with Thanksgiving week tourneys this week.

Georgia is in Hawaii, Auburn is in Brooklyn, and other teams are traveling around, too. Let’s just say some are faring better than others thus far.

Here’s a look at where each team stands in our SDS power rankings just ahead of Thanksgiving:

14. Vanderbilt (5-1, Last week: 14)

The Commodores continue to show signs of life on offense, but it’s all coming against lesser opponents. Still, Jerry Stackhouse’s crew has already reached the 90-point mark 3 times this year. They only scored that many points 4 times last season.

The loss to Richmond (in overtime) doesn’t look quite as bad now, either, as Richmond took down Wisconsin on Monday night. Still, until Vandy beats a better team, it’s going to be tough to move the Commodores out of the No. 14 spot.

A game against 4-1 Tulsa on Saturday will at least be interesting for Vandy.

13. Texas A&M (3-1, LW: 13)

The Aggies have only played 4 games, and one was a blowout home loss against an elite Gonzaga team, so it’s hard to tell what Buzz Williams has on his hands. However, the Aggies head to Orlando this week for a tournament, getting things started on Thursday against Harvard.

If A&M falls against Harvard, a move to the bottom of the rankings might be in order, as Vanderbilt can at least score.

Now that the Aggies are reportedly losing talented-but-inconsistent guard TJ Starks to the NCAA transfer portal, the offense won’t be getting a boost anytime soon.

12. Alabama (2-2, LW: 12)

The Crimson Tide bounced back a bit last week, picking up a win over a previously undefeated Furman team. Freshman guard Jaden Shackelford had a breakout performance, scoring 25 points and grabbing 5 rebounds.

Things are going to get a bit tougher this week, as the Tide will head to The Bahamas to take on No. 6 North Carolina. That will be a huge opportunity for coach Nate Oats’ squad, but it might be a bit too soon for Alabama to win a game like this.

11. South Carolina (4-1, LW: 6)

Dropping 5 spots in the rankings might seem a bit harsh, but that’s what happens when you lose at home to Boston. The Gamecocks were outscored 43-32 in the 2nd half of a 78-70 loss.

They bounced back with a 74-69 win over Gardner-Webb on Friday, but neither game bodes particularly well for Tuesday’s matchup against 5-0 Wichita State in Mexico.

10. Mizzou (4-2, LW: 11)

The Tigers were thoroughly outclassed by Butler on Monday night in Kansas City, falling  63-52. In the 2nd half, the Tigers closed the gap to around 10 points a few times, but could never make the big shot to really put pressure on Butler.

Mizzou was outrebounded 29-20, in large part because big man Jeremiah Tilmon could only stay on the court for 17 minutes due to his trademark foul trouble.

Still, they move up in the rankings because Butler is much better than the Boston squad that beat South Carolina. Now, the Tigers will try to regroup in the 3rd-place game of the Hall of Fame Classic on Tuesday night.

9. Georgia (4-1, LW: 8)

Woof. That’s not Uga barking, that’s me commenting on Georgia’s loss to Dayton in Round 1 of the Maui Invitational. The Bulldogs were trounced by the Flyers 80-61.

This game proved that it’s big man Rayshaun Hammonds, not superstar freshman Anthony Edwards, who is the most important player for the Dawgs. Hammonds scored only 5 points and fouled out in only 14 minutes of court time. Edwards scored 6 points in 28 minutes and went 0-for-5 from 3-point range.

However, this is a young team and this was their first trip outside of the state of Georgia (in fact, it was their first game away from home). We’ll see if they can bounce back in their final 2 games from Maui. That won’t be easy with a game against No. 3 Michigan State (which was upset by Virginia Tech on Monday) in Tuesday’s consolation game.

8. Ole Miss (4-1, LW: 10)

It was a rough year for the Rebels against rival Memphis, losing to the Tigers in both football and men’s basketball. However, the loss to the Tigers on the court wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.

Memphis held on for a narrow 87-86 win, although Ole Miss made a 3 at the buzzer to cut the losing margin to 1 point. Still, Memphis is ranked and the Rebels gave them a game. Breein Tyree is heating up, finishing the Memphis game with 24 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists.

The Rebels take on Penn State on Wednesday in Brooklyn. That will be another good test for Kermit Davis’ team.

7. LSU (4-2, LW: 5)

LSU has had 2 opportunities to pick up a great nonconference win, and has come up short in each of them. First, it was a 2-point loss to a ranked VCU team on the road. Then, on Friday, the Tigers lost by 2 points to a ranked Utah State team in Jamaica.

They bounced back with a nice win over Rhode Island to close out their time in Jamaica, but one of those wins would have been nice for their tournament résumé. However, Will Wade’s squad is still really tough, and is right on the verge of a breakthrough.

Now, we’ll see how the Tigers handle Missouri State in Baton Rouge on Friday night. A climb back up these rankings isn’t out of the question at all.

6. Arkansas (6-0, LW: 9)

Yes, the Hogs almost blew a game at Georgia Tech, but winning against a major-conference team on the road is never easy. And, making it even better, Mason Jones banked in a game-winning 3 just ahead of the buzzer:

I’ll admit I was too low on Arkansas entering the season. This is a good squad and Eric Musselman has them playing well. If they keep winning, they’ll keep climbing the rankings.

The Razorbacks go back home to host Northern Kentucky on Friday, which should see them improve to 7-0. Excitement is building (at least for the basketball team) in Fayetteville.

5. Mississippi State (6-1, LW: 2)

It’s tough to punish the Bulldogs too much for a 3rd-place finish in the Myrtle Beach Invitational, especially when their only loss was to a ranked Villanova team. Still, that was a chance for Ben Howland’s team to make a statement, and it came up just short in the 83-76 semifinal loss.

The Bulldogs bounced back and crushed host school Coastal Carolina 81-56 in the 3rd-place game, so there are some positives to take away from Myrtle Beach. Now, the Bulldogs have some time off before a Dec. 5 game against Louisiana Tech.

4. Florida (5-2, LW: 7)

The Gators got off to a brutal 2-2 start this season, but a trip to Charleston for a pre-Thanksgiving tournament was just what the doctor ordered for Mike White and his squad. Florida ended up winning the Charleston Classic with victories over Saint Joseph’s, rival Miami and a ranked Xavier team.

In the opener against Saint Joe’s, Keyontae Johnson — who won tournament MVP honors — had 22 points and 12 rebounds. Here’s his highlight video from the win:

Kerry Blackshear Jr. had a double-double against Miami and Andrew Nembhard, along with Johnson, led the Gators with 15 points each in the win over Xavier in the title game. That sort of balance will help Florida moving forward.

3. Kentucky (5-1, LW: 4)

It was a bit of a ho-hum week for the Wildcats, who took care of Mount St. Mary’s and Lamar in games they were supposed to win. Kentucky’s freshmen continue to improve, as Tyrese Maxey leads the team with 16 points per game.

Maxey is starting to heat up from 3-point range, and is also a very strong driver who can finish through contact around the rim:

Add in Ashton Hagans’ continued improvement and this team’s backcourt is starting to round into shape. A home game against UAB on Friday should allow Kentucky to continue getting better as tougher games draw near.

2. Tennessee (5-0, LW: 3)

The Vols continue to be the Lamonte Bowden show … er, I mean the Jordan Turner show. Dang it! I mean Lamonte Turner and Jordan Bowden. There, got it right that time.

Seriously, though, those guys are really good, and they carried the load once again in a 58-46 win over Chattanooga on Monday night. Turner had 17 points and 12 assists, while Bowden contributed a double-double of his own with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

On Friday, the Vols head to the Emerald Coast Classic in Florida to take on Florida State in what should be another good test for them. Can they beat the Seminoles and do what Florida couldn’t earlier this year? We’ll find out then.

1. Auburn (6-0, LW: 1)

Hey, would you look at that? We finally have a team repeating as the No. 1 team in these rankings! Auburn took down New Mexico thanks to a 2nd-half outburst on Monday night in Brooklyn, winning 84-59.

Samir Doughty continues to light it up from downtown, knocking down 5 3s against the Lobos. Meanwhile, Austin Wiley is dominating in the post. He had 14 points and 13 rebounds against New Mexico.

The Tigers don’t get a matchup against Wisconsin on Tuesday night, though, as the Badgers lost to Richmond on Monday. However, a win against Richmond would be a solid one for the Tigers.
