A year after Josh Allen of Kentucky took home the Bednarik Award hardware, 15 players from across the SEC are in the running for the 2019 award according to a preseason watch list.

Allen beat out Alabama’s Quinnen Williams and Clemson’s Christian Wilkins for the award. LSU’s Grant Delpit, who was a semifinalist last year, is on the watch list again this season.

This is the 25th year of the Bednarik Award, presented by the Maxwell Football Club, and it recognizes the top college defensive player of the year. It’s named after former Penn and Philadelphia Eagles standout Chuck Bednarik.
