On Tuesday, news broke of a massive federal investigation into the shady underbelly of college basketball recruiting.

The investigation led to charges filed against Auburn assistant coach Chuck Person and assistants at USC, Arizona and Oklahoma State and, on Wednesday, led to Louisville AD Tom Jurich and Rick Pitino being placed on administrative leave.

On Wednesday evening, SEC commissioner Greg Sankey released a statement on the scandal, supporting the federal investigation and calling it good for the sport of college basketball to get rid of the wrongdoers:

Auburn coach Bruce Pearl has now canceled his press conference two days in a row, but eventually he’ll have to address the matter at hand.

Whether any other SEC schools are caught up in this investigation (South Carolina’s name has been tossed around on the periphery of the matter) remains to be seen, but Auburn is the only school officially facing any problems at the moment.
