The 2024 college football season is cruising along, and we’ve reached the last Saturday of October. For the first time this season, no team in the SEC enters Saturday undefeated, but the only 2 teams without a conference loss are facing off.

No. 8 LSU is in College Station to face No. 14 Texas A&M. Both squads stumbled against nonconference opponents in Week 1, but have taken care of business since, without dropping any conference contests. The winner of Saturday’s showdown at Kyle Field will take sole possession of No. 1 in the SEC standings entering November.

No. 15 Alabama and No. 21 Mizzou each entered the 2024 season with College Football Playoff expectations. While the requirements of getting a CFP bid aren’t as cut and dry in the new era of 12 teams, Saturday’s clash between the Crimson Tide and Tigers is being labeled an elimination game by many. Neither team is operating as if it can afford another loss.

Ahead of the 2024 season, few would have expected Texas at Vanderbilt to be a matchup of 2 ranked teams. The No. 5 Longhorns are in bounce-back mode after the home loss to Georgia, their first of the season. The No. 25 Commodores, meanwhile, are on a 3-game winning streak with October victories against Alabama, Kentucky and Ball State.

The 3 ranked-on-ranked showdowns make up half of the Saturday SEC slate.

Oklahoma at No. 18 Ole Miss starts things off the early window. The Sooners are reeling after being outscored 69-12 in back-to-back losses to Texas and South Carolina. Lane Kiffin’s Rebels are ready to move on from the overtime loss at LSU in Week 7.

The early window also has the familiar matchup of Arkansas at Mississippi State. It’s been an up-and-down year for the Razorbacks, who are 2-2 over the last 4 conference contests. MSU has yet to give Jeff Lebby an SEC win, but the Bulldogs showed some fight in losses to Georgia and Texas A&M.

Auburn and Kentucky are scheduled to be the last kickoff of the day in the SEC. Both teams are desperate for a win. AU is 2-5 overall, having dropped 4 consecutive SEC contests. Kentucky is also below .500 at 3-4 overall and 1-4 in the SEC.
