SEC Network analyst Cole Cubelic shares takeaways for each SEC team following Week 4 action
Week 4 in the SEC had it all – ranked-vs-ranked action, division showdowns, cross-division clashes and a few out-of-conference contests. Georgia vs. Notre Dame headlined the schedule and it did not disappoint, going down to the final minute of the fourth quarter.
All 14 SEC teams were in action on Saturday. Every Sunday, SEC Network analyst Cole Cubelic tweets his thoughts about each SEC team’s Saturday performance.
Here’s what he had to say:
ARKANSAS:
Completely unacceptable under the terms of any rebuild. Moved the ball but 5 picks from one guy can’t happen. One sack on 49 pass attempts? Defense couldn’t find stops. They fought late but just no reason to be in that spot. No idea what to expect moving forward.— Cole Cubelic (@colecubelic) September 22, 2019
FLORIDA:
Trask did some nice things. Will need to limit turnovers. Had more of a run game to lean on. This front 7 is going to be a handful for everyone on the schedule. Middle of the DL improving. Defense is flying around. OL isn’t bad in pass pro. 4-0 in the top 10— Cole Cubelic (@colecubelic) September 22, 2019
KENTUCKY:
Smith never seemed comfortable. Turnovers for points on the road are killer. DL was a little disappointing. In a scary spot now having dropped two straight with a trip to Columbia looming. Bowl eligibility not the goal anymore. Still have a chance to get past that.— Cole Cubelic (@colecubelic) September 22, 2019
MISSISSIPPI STATE:
Early points off turnovers allowed offense to calm down. Shrader tough as nails. Took time but then settled in to playing ground & pound & got run game going. Hill is in the mix for the best RB in the league. Nice bounce back with huge road game up next.— Cole Cubelic (@colecubelic) September 22, 2019
OLE MISS:
Brutal way to drop a game. Needed it for a bowl. I like to say the offense is spreading the ball around. OL is slowing coming together. Had some bad matchups outside defensively. Played hard. They will continue to improve.— Cole Cubelic (@colecubelic) September 22, 2019
TENNESSEE:
No consistent run game plus QB mistakes are a recipe for disaster. Not talented to overcome that. Defense needed to affect Trask & didn’t do it enough. Things need to change in hurry because the schedule isn’t getting lighter. May see some personnel changes soon.— Cole Cubelic (@colecubelic) September 22, 2019
VANDERBILT:
Got off to a bad start & never slowed down. Offense kept fighting but the plan doesn’t seem to feature the NFL skill enough. Adjustments on defense came a little late. Tackling was a real issue. Needed to get home on pressure & could not. Need more calm at QB.— Cole Cubelic (@colecubelic) September 22, 2019
Week 5 in the SEC features six total games, including three SEC West clashes: Texas A&M at Arkansas, Ole Miss at Alabama and Mississippi State at Auburn. We’re about to get a better feel for the division standings, so check back next Sunday to see what Cubelic has to say about each team.
