Two teams that have a few things in common following last week’s games meet this week when Auburn and Arkansas are set to play in Fayetteville.

On the SEC Network show “Thinking Out Loud,” analysts Greg McElroy and Marcus Spears gave their opinions on a series that Auburn’s won three of the last four meetings. Auburn won last year, 56-3, but Arkansas won two years ago 54-46.

Spears began his comments referring to the inconsistent Auburn offense last week against LSU.

“In the first half, it looked great,” Spears said. “But in the second half, it didn’t look like they adjusted to anything that (LSU defensive coordinator) Dave Aranda was doing, and it was simple to me. What they were doing was sending Devin White on late dog blitzes.”

Spears added that while LSU tried to create a sense of urgency on Auburn quarterback Jarrett Stidham, the Auburn offense didn’t take advantage of short passes and methodically go down the field.

“They’re always looking for the home run ball when it’s a throw, and it was perplexing,” Spears said.

McElroy noted that Arkansas would look to bounce back from its loss to Alabama with a win in this game.

“We’ve seen this team play well in November before,” he said, “and we need to see it again.”

The trouble is, the Razorbacks haven’t established the line of scrimmage, and they’re dealing with an injured quarterback, with Austin Allen out, and he’s been replaced by Cole Kelley.

“Now they’re a passing team and they don’t have elite skill on the perimeter,” McElroy said. “Couple that with the fact that they can’t protect real well, and their defense is kind of rotational.”

Spear said he’s leaning toward Auburn winning on Saturday.

“I think they’re going to come out with fire in their mouth after this LSU game, and figure some things out,” he said.

Added McElroy, “I think you’re probably right. It is in Fayetteville, though.”
