During a break in the podium activity at SEC Media Days on Tuesday afternoon, two SEC Network analysts took to ranking the running backs in the conference.

There wasn’t any objection to Booger McFarland’s proclamation that “Georgia has the best group of running backs in the country, and it’s not even close for me.”

McFarland and fellow analyst Greg McElroy then ranked players individually:

McFarland:

1. Derrius Guice, LSU
2. Nick Chubb, Georgia
3. Bo Scarbrough, Alabama

McElroy:

1. Derrius Guice, LSU
2. Nick Chubb, Georgia
3. Damarea Crockett, Missouri

During the playful exchange on the set of SEC Now with Laura Rutledge and Marcus Spears, McElroy jokingly said to McFarland that other running backs around the conference had called his phone sitting on the desk. McFarland replied that the phone connection was static.

Guice and Chubb have been arguably the most popular players so far in Hoover, Ala. and most rankings of the top running backs in the SEC have Guice and Chubb one-two in either order.

Against Texas A&M last year, Guice set LSU’s single-game rushing record with 285 yards, broke the record that Leonard Fournette set earlier in 2016. Guice topped the 100-yard mark in six of the eight games in which he received more than 10 carries. Chubb, meanwhile, has been asked about his pairing with Sony Michel and their decisions to return to campus and not enter the NFL Draft after last season. Despite a serious knee injury that cut short his sophomore season, Chubb has collected 3,424 career yards.
