Let’s try this again.

We already took a stab at predicting the entire “SEC on CBS” broadcast schedule for 2020 once this offseason, but that was before the Southeastern Conference shifted to a 10-game, conference-only slate.

Now we have 14 completely different schedules to select from and 14 extra league games have been added to the overall SEC schedule this fall.

In college football, there’s nothing quite like the “SEC on CBS” time slot during the regular season — just listening to CBS’s theme song for the “SEC on CBS” game of the week is enough to get any SEC fan fired up for some football.

Many times during the season the “SEC on CBS” matchup is the game of the week nationally, and looking over some of the selections below, that’s sure to be the case yet again this fall.

Week 1 — Saturday, Sept. 26

The pick: Kentucky at Auburn

A case could be made for Tennessee at South Carolina, but the matchup between the Wildcats and Tigers has the most potential for Week 1 drama. Those who follow the SEC closely understand the job Mark Stoops has done building up the Kentucky program and this year’s team could prove to be the best he’s had. Auburn has all the pieces in place to have a good team, but questions on both lines of scrimmage could cost the Tigers — especially when opening the season against a quality SEC opponent — and losing the next SEC matchup after a huge Iron Bowl win to end the 2019 regular season would be on-brand for Gus Malzahn.

Week 2 — Saturday, Oct. 3

The pick: Texas A&M at Alabama

The Aggies originally caught a break by not having to face Alabama or LSU until the final 2 weekends, but now following the updated schedule, Jimbo Fisher’s team will catch the Crimson Tide much earlier. While that might be bad news (Nick Saban typically has his team ready to go right out of the gate), Fisher recently expressed the right attitude about the change in the schedule: “You want to be the best, you have to compete against the best. Playing them (in Tuscaloosa) will be tough, they have a great team. You gonna play them, might as well at the get-go.” We’ll find out if Texas A&M is for real much sooner than expected this fall.

Week 3 — Saturday, Oct. 10

The pick: Tennessee at Georgia

Florida at Texas A&M is a possibility, but when you add the Cade Mays drama to this divisional matchup, the bad blood between these programs should make for a good game. This should be Jeremy Pruitt’s best team to date on Rocky Top and while the final scores in the 2 most recent Georgia vs. Tennessee matchups have been one-sided, the Vols have shown they can play with the Bulldogs before the talent and depth of Kirby Smart’s program took over. There is still an overall talent gap, but this could be the year the Vols put a scare into the Bulldogs.

Week 4 — Saturday, Oct. 17

The pick: Georgia at Alabama

This is the easiest pick of the season, no chance another game is selected by CBS this weekend.

Week 5 — Saturday, Oct. 24

The pick: Alabama at Tennessee or Georgia at Kentucky

It will be interesting to see how many days out CBS plans on picking games. Scheduling out farther than a week could be a mistake for many weekends, and this could prove to be one of them. Depending on a pair of Week 4 matchups (Georgia at Alabama/Kentucky at Tennessee), CBS might be wise to hold out to see which of these matchups is a more compelling game. Ideally, both winners from the Week 4 matchups will meet the following Saturday on CBS. Don’t be stunned if Kentucky is in first place in the East entering Week 5 based on the first 4 games on the team’s schedule (at Auburn, vs. Ole Miss, vs. Mississippi State, at Tennessee).

Week 6 — Saturday, Oct. 31

The pick: LSU at Auburn

When LSU and Auburn meet, it’s always one of the best, most physical games of the season in the SEC West and this year looks to be no different. For whatever reason, the winner typically goes on to have a great season while the loser fails to live up to preseason expectations. This matchup is scheduled to be the 6th game in as many weeks for both programs before they reach their bye weekend. LSU has won 3 in a row, by margins of 3, 1 and 4. Look for each team to fight and claw with the prize of heading into the bye week with some momentum before hitting the most critical stretch of the season for both teams in November.

Week 7 — Saturday, Nov. 7

The pick: Florida vs. Georgia (in Jacksonville)

This selection is a guarantee, as Florida and Georgia are annually selected by CBS to be featured in the nationally televised broadcast. The East division might very well come down to this game and CBS will be there to capture the action.

Week 8 — Saturday, Nov. 14

The pick: Alabama at LSU

Another seemingly annual selection by CBS, the most powerful programs in the West are set to collide in Baton Rouge after LSU finally ended its 8-game losing streak against Alabama. The anticipation for this matchup is annually through the roof and both sides should have everything to play for. Alabama will have the revenge factor while LSU, for the first time in nearly a decade, will take confidence into this showdown knowing what it takes to beat the Tide. Which force will win out? CBS will be there to find out.

Week 9 — Saturday, Nov. 21

The pick: Mississippi State at Georgia

This might seem like a strange selection, but it could be a fun matchup with Mike Leach’s offense going up against Kirby Smart’s defense. We are all expecting the Bulldogs to have an elite defense, but a few factors could be in play that help Mississippi State. For one, Georgia’s defense never sees any offense that resembles the Air Raid in SEC play. Secondly, if Georgia’s offense has found its footing and rips into Mississippi State’s defense, how much rest will Smart’s defense end up getting in this game? There’s a chance we get a Big 12-style shootout and I’ll bet CBS will be interested in covering the action.

Week 10 — Saturday, Nov. 28

The pick: Auburn at Alabama

LSU at Texas A&M might prove to be the better game, and the Egg Bowl could be the more entertaining matchup, but CBS has selected the Iron Bowl nearly every season the past decade with the lone exception coming in 2014 when it selected Mississippi State and Ole Miss. For all the inconsistencies of Gus Malzahn’s Auburn program, the Tigers have matched up against Nick Saban’s program better than any other SEC program. One thing that should not be overlooked: Chad Morris’ Arkansas program had some success against the Alabama defense in the first matchup in 2018.

Week 11 — Saturday, Dec. 5

The pick: Florida at Tennessee

Tennessee fans are already calling for a blizzard in early December in the hopes of knocking the Gators off their game. We all know Tennessee hasn’t had any luck against Florida in September, but the Vols did beat the Gators the last time this series was played in December. This series was once a must-selection for CBS and this year could bring relevance back to the annual rivalry if Pruitt can finally get his Tennessee program to show up against the Gators.
