Do you know how we can tell opening week is looming the SEC?

There’s way too much talk about neutral-site games and Sun Belt opponents, both of which are in abundance on the Week 1 SEC schedule.

So we’ve decided to sort out which games will be tough and which games will be interesting. Some games are both, others are neither.

We’re ranking these matchups, by both levels of difficulty and intrigue, on a very simple 1-5 scale. The scale runs from very low (1) to very high (5). Low (2), medium (3) and high (4) give us some options in between the extremes.

Got it? Good. Now, let’s get started:

14. LSU vs. McNeese State

Difficulty level: Very low
This should amount to a glorified exhibition game. Nothing to see here.

Intrigue level: Very low
The Tigers fans will use this day as a tune-up for tailgating as much as the players will use the game for their own warm-up. At least it’s an in-state game.

13. Missouri vs. Southeast Missouri State

Difficulty level: Very low
SEMO doesn’t strike fear into the hearts of its Ohio Valley Conference rivals, so there is little suggest that the defending SEC East champs should be concerned.

Intrigue level: Very low
Aside from the in-state intrigue of some SEMO kids that likely wanted to go to Missouri, there isn’t much here.

12. Ole Miss vs. Tennessee-Martin

Difficulty level: Very low
UT-Martin was in the “others receiving votes” category of the FCS coaches poll, but it is hard to imagine they do damage at Vaught-Hemingway.

Intrigue level: Very low
We’ll get a look at the new Ole Miss quarterback, or perhaps an extension of the QB competition, but that’s about it.

11. Georgia vs. Louisiana-Monroe

Difficulty level: Low
UL-Monroe lost by 31 to LSU and 34 to Kentucky … and then nearly beat Texas A&M in its third game against SEC opponents last season.

Intrigue level: Very low
It feels like we’ve seen this show before. Mark Richt’s team demolishes another Sun Belt opponent.

10. Arkansas vs. UTEP

Difficulty level: Medium
The Miners had a seven-win season a year ago and a trip to a bowl game, but did not play a team the caliber of Arkansas.

Intrigue level: Low
With so many returning players, we should know exactly what we’re going to get from Arkansas here.

9. Florida vs. New Mexico State

Difficulty level: Low
Coming off a 2-10 season, New Mexico State just doesn’t pose a big threat to the rebuilding Gators.

Intrigue level: Medium
Jim McElwain’s debut is going to be worth watching. Also, QB Will Grier’s first game could be interesting.

8. Mississippi State at Southern Mississippi

Difficulty level: Low
If this game were played a few years back, it would be much higher up the list. The Golden Eagles are in rebuild mode, while Mississippi State is as strong as ever.

Intrigue level: Medium
A little in-state rivalry in Week 1 is always fun. Southern Mississippi will want this one bad in front of a home crowd.

7. Tennessee vs. Bowling Green (Nashville, Tenn.)

Difficulty level: Medium
Bowling Green is a quality MAC program that is capable of making the Volunteers pay if they are sloppy.

Intrigue level: Medium
The Volunteers are taking their show on the road to Nashville. How many other schools could play a neutral site game in the home town of a rival SEC program?

6. Kentucky vs. Louisiana-Lafayette

Difficulty level: Medium
The defending New Orleans Bowl champions won nine games last season, but UL-Lafayette struggled in its lone game against an SEC opponent last season (56-15 loss to Ole Miss).

Intrigue level: Medium
The margin for error is very thin if this Kentucky team is going to make the postseason in 2015, so this is a must-have game. Wildcats will also debut new offense.

5. Vanderbilt vs. Western Kentucky

Difficulty level: Medium
Western Kentucky will bring in an explosive offense with the nation’s leading passer in Brandon Doughty, but brings a porous defense along with them.

Intrigue level: Very high
This Thursday night game could define Derek Mason’s tenure at Vanderbilt. After last season, he has no room to ask for forgiveness from a loss here.

4. South Carolina vs. North Carolina (Charlotte, N.C.)

Difficulty level: High
A Larry Fedora offense is always dangerous, but how quickly can new defensive coordinator Gene Chizik fix a defense that was very much broken in 2014?

Intrigue level: High
A neutral-site, Thursday night game between two programs that often clash in recruiting and are desperate for a good start to the season should make for good TV.

3. Auburn vs. Louisville (Atlanta, Georgia)

Difficulty level: High
Any time you go up against a Bobby Petrino-led offense, things are going to be difficult. Will Muschamp will be tested early.

Intrigue level: High
Petrino vs. the SEC probably will always hold a certain amount of intrigue.

2. Texas A&M vs. Arizona State (Houston, Texas)

Difficulty level: Very high
Todd Graham has the Sun Devils program trending upward, including a 10-win season in 2014.

Intrigue level: Very high
These teams have never met before. Both have the ability to light up a scoreboard. Sign us up.

1. Alabama vs. Wisconsin (Arlington, Texas)

Difficulty level: Very high
SEC fans need not look any further than Wisconsin’s win over Auburn in the Outback Bowl last season to see the threat here.

Intrigue level: Very high
Neutral-site game. Unfamiliar opponent. Power 5 clash. It has all the makings of a fun game.
