Well, the Game of the Century between Tennessee and Georgia didn’t live up to expectations, as the reigning-champion Bulldogs absolutely smothered the Vols’ elite offense.

But, in Baton Rouge, we had a heck of a game between top-10 teams, as LSU beat Alabama on a 2-point conversion in overtime. Kentucky and Mizzou had a crazy finish. Liberty upset Arkansas in Fayetteville. Auburn and Mississippi State went to overtime.

It was an exciting day in the SEC, and it led to some shakeups in the power rankings.

So, without further ado, let’s take a look at where exactly each of the 14 SEC squads stand in our weekly power rankings after Week 10:

14. Vanderbilt (3-6 overall, 0-5 in SEC)

Previous ranking: 14
This week: 38-27 L to South Carolina

Ho hum. Wake me up when this team actually wins an SEC game. Well, actually, don’t. Hopefully I don’t sleep that long. This team is staring down another 0-8 SEC campaign and hasn’t won a league game since 2019. Things are ugly in Nashville, and it’s not looking promising for the rest of this year.

13. Auburn (3-6, 1-5)

Previous ranking: 13
This week: 39-33 L to Mississippi State

This team played really hard for Cadillac Williams. He was just as passionate on the sidelines, so it’s easy to see why this team was willing to run through walls for him. Still, a loss is a loss. This team has a long way to go, but no one should take the Tigers lightly down the stretch. They’re going to play hard for their interim coach.

12. Texas A&M (3-6, 1-5)

Previous ranking: 12
This week: 41-24 L to Florida

Yes, the Aggies were down a ton of players due to the flu, injuries and other reasons, but they were still at home against a struggling Florida team. They kept things close for a while, but getting shut out in the second half was ugly. Now, the Aggies have to win out to simply qualify for a bowl game. That won’t be easy, especially with the way this team is playing recently.

11. Mizzou (4-5, 2-4)

Previous ranking: 11
This week: 21-17 L to Kentucky

Being a Mizzou fan is just taking gut punch after gut punch with no end in sight. You always know the worst is coming, but you never know what form the devastating loss will take. This week, it was a roughing the punter call after a botched snap. Earlier this year, it was fumbling into the end zone in overtime after a missed chip shot by kicker Harrison Mevis. The Tigers deserve some respect for keeping things competitive, even against No. 1 Georgia, but this squad has to stop finding historic ways to lose games.

10. Florida (5-4, 2-4)

Previous ranking: 10
This week: 41-24 W over Texas A&M

Florida let a massively depleted Texas A&M squad hang around for way too long. Credit to Billy Napier’s team for pitching a shutout in the second half, but the Gators still need work on playing 60 solid minutes of football. Anthony Richardson showed more of the brilliance that have many NFL scouts calling him a future first-round pick, but the Gators will need even more from him down the stretch.

9. Arkansas (5-4, 2-3)

Previous ranking: 6
This week: 21-19 L to Liberty

Liberty is a good team that belongs in the top 25 of the College Football Playoff rankings. That said, Arkansas has no business losing to the Flames in Fayetteville. That was an awful loss for Sam Pittman’s squad, as the Hogs went down 21-3 in the first half and couldn’t battle all the way back in the second half. There are some major problems on defense with this team. We’ll see if the Hogs can fix those issues moving forward.

8. South Carolina (6-3, 3-3)

Previous ranking: 9
This week: 38-27 W over Vanderbilt

The Gamecocks are bowl-eligible for the second year in a row under Shane Beamer. He’s doing a good job in Columbia, and there are still 3 games left for the Gamecocks to improve their bowl standing. No, this team doesn’t win pretty. But, wins are wins, and South Carolina has enough of them to qualify for the postseason. That’s worthy of the No. 8 spot this week.

7. Mississippi State (6-3, 3-3)

Previous ranking: 8
This week: 39-33 W (OT) over Auburn

The Bulldogs did everything they could to make Saturday’s overtime win over Auburn interesting, but any win in SEC play is impressive. Mike Leach may have taken the chairs away from his receivers on the bench, but the Bulldogs still managed to snag bowl eligibility with an overtime victory. This team has some holes it needs to address, but it’s always better to work on those things after a win.

6. Kentucky (6-3, 3-3)

Previous ranking: 6
This week: 21-17 W over Mizzou

Kentucky escaped Columbia with a win by the skin of its teeth. This wasn’t an inspiring win for the Wildcats, but credit to QB Will Levis for playing through an obvious injury. That’s going to be an issue moving forward if he can’t get healthy, as he was clearly limited, taking several sacks from Mizzou’s active defensive line. But, the Wildcats make some big plays on defense and that will keep them in every game moving forward.

5. Alabama (7-2, 4-2)

Previous ranking: 3
This week: 32-31 L (OT) to No. 10 LSU

Alabama is an undisciplined team. The offensive line has major flaws. Bryce Young is incredible, but he has to be a hero on nearly every play just to keep the Tide’s offense moving downfield. The defense commits too many penalties. The Playoff hopes are over. That’s a crazy thought for a team with this much talent. This might go down as one of Nick Saban’s most-disappointing teams.

4. Ole Miss (8-1, 4-1)

Previous ranking: 5
This week: OFF

Ole Miss bumps up a spot even on its off week. The Rebels have a chance to get healthy and then host a 2-loss Alabama team this coming Saturday. Will Ole Miss’s dynamic rushing attack give the Tide problems? Can the Rebels’ scrappy defense force Alabama into a couple of turnovers? Whatever happens, the game in Oxford on Saturday afternoon should be a ton of fun to watch.

3. LSU (7-2, 5-1)

Previous ranking: 4
This week: 32-31 W (OT) over No. 6 Alabama

Wow.

What else can you say about that gritty, incredible victory for the Tigers over Alabama. Jayden Daniels belongs in the Heisman conversation. Brian Kelly is one heck of a coach. The Tigers’ defense played inspired football, affecting Bryce Young for most of the game. The Tigers have a path to the Playoff, even with 2 losses. What an incredible coaching job by Kelly this year!

2. Tennessee (8-1, 4-1)

Previous ranking: 1
This week: 27-13 L to No. 3 Georgia

No, it wasn’t a great week for the Vols, who went to Athens with a chance to make a major statement. Instead, they lost their grip on the No. 1 spot in the College Football Playoff rankings with the 27-13 defeat. Still, this is a really good team. Going into Sanford Stadium, in that raucous environment, would be tough for any team in the country. There’s still a lot to play for moving forward for the Vols.

1. Georgia (9-0, 6-0)

Previous ranking: 2
This week: 27-13 W over No. 1 Tennessee

Georgia made a statement with its home win over the Vols on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs dominated from the opening whistle, and even though the final score showed a 2-possession game, it never felt like the Vols were threatening to take the lead. The champs are the champs for a reason, and Georgia proved it should be No. 1 in every poll until someone else proves otherwise.
