Let’s see the season through to the end. Here’s where we see your favorite team ending up with just one week to go in the regular season.

SEC West

Alabama: 12-0

We should probably be searching for meaning in the fact that The Citadel gave Alabama more trouble than anybody it played all season. We guess that the meaning is that there is no meaning, aside from the randomness and choas inherent in a sport played by college kids.

Arkansas: 2-10

An Arkansas team that lost by 46 points to Mississippi State is about to play a Missouri team that won on the road by 33 points. We’ve got an idea that we know how this Arkansas-Missouri finale ends next Saturday.

Auburn: 7-5

Could the Tigers have saved a few of those 53 points against Liberty for the Iron Bowl? Probably not. That’s not quite how it works.

LSU: 10-2

This LSU/Texas A&M game next Saturday is a great testing ground for both teams. LSU looks like the superior squad, but the Aggies certainly have a reasonable chance.

Mississippi: 5-7

An Ole Miss team that finds a way to lose in Nashville while outgaining Vanderbilt by almost 200 yards isn’t going to find a way to win against a Mississippi State that’s on the rise.

Mississippi State: 8-4

Sure, the Egg Bowl on Thanksgiving is a rivalry game, which means you can throw the records and stats out the window. You might as well just not throw them out in this one, because it looks pretty uneven from here.

Texas A&M: 7-5

The game with LSU becomes a potential milestone to say that the Fisher transition is a year ahead of schedule. Even if it isn’t, it’s been an incredibly interesting year with the Aggies, and the future in College Station is bright.

SEC East

Florida: 9-3

Florida State appeared to awaken from its season-long slumber with a win over Boston College on Saturday and could gain a bowl berth with a win against Florida in the season finale, but the Gators are still the superior team.

Georgia: 11-1

The triple option may give Georgia some defensive problems, but it’s hard to imagine Georgia Tech figuring out a way to stop the Bulldogs. Another 66-27 type game could well be in the works.

Kentucky: 9-3

Louisville is awful. This will still probably be a competitive game, because Kentucky is either beaten up or has had its spirit broken. A month to heal before their bowl game should clarify which of these is the problem.

Missouri: 8-4

You crush Tennessee, you’ll crush Arkansas too. The Tigers have been one of the more enjoyable teams to watch in the SEC this season.

South Carolina: 7-5

Akron won’t beat them, but Clemson certainly will. The Will Muschamp coaching tenure’s forward momentum feels like it may be stopped.

Tennessee: 5-7

Heading into this weekend, we would have been more likely to project UT to go 7-5 than 5-7, but we’re picking the hotter team in the Tennessee bowl battle, and that’s not the Volunteers.

Vandy: 6-6

Similarly, two weeks ago we had Vanderbilt going 4-8. Since they found a way to win once against Ole Miss, we’ll pick them to do it again on Saturday against Tennessee.
