Remember all those preseason predictions? Don’t throw them away just yet, just revise them after a crazy — and unbelievably disappointing for many — Week 1 for the SEC.

You didn’t see Tennessee, a 25-point favorite, losing at home to Georgia State? We didn’t either, but now we can predict the season as if we had. So here’s where we see your favorite team ending the regular season — after SEC Week 1.

SEC West

Alabama: 12-0

There wasn’t anything in Alabama’s win over Duke that would cause us to reassess our thoughts on the Crimson Tide. Until somebody beats them, we won’t expect anything less than perfection from this squad.

Arkansas: 4-8

If Arkansas can beat Ole Miss in Oxford next week, we can start entertaining the possibility of a bowl bid for the Razorbacks. If not, it’s tough to see six wins on this schedule.

Auburn: 9-3

That comeback victory over Oregon made the 7-5 or 8-4 type of predictions look a little too modest for Auburn, at least for the moment. Week 4 at Texas A&M is the next significant test. A win there and finishing second in the SEC West is a very real possibility. Lose there, and we might drop back a notch.

LSU: 10-2

LSU looked like a team that will be in the top-10 nationally throughout the season. That schedule is a shade too tough to call for 11-1, but an impressive win in Austin next week against a very good Texas team might change our minds.

Mississippi State: 8-4

Mississippi State’s schedule could shake out for a better season than this, but games at Auburn and Texas A&M have us going with eight wins for now.

Ole Miss: 5-7

The remaining non-conference games are fairly soft for Ole Miss, and the Rebels do get Vanderbilt from the SEC East in a crossover game, but it’s hard to see six wins here.

Texas A&M: 9-3

Texas A&M was stout against a weak foe in Week 1, and will get a much more significant test next week at No. 1-ranked Clemons. They could end up the second-best team in the SEC West, but the schedule is tough.

SEC East

Florida: 9-3

The off week was good to the Gators after their Week 0 win against Miamia, as they watched Florida State stumble and road foes South Carolina and Missouri both take losses. SEC West opponents Auburn and LSU both look a little daunting, though.

Georgia: 11-1

After one week, it feels like somebody trips up Georgia — maybe Notre Dame or at Auburn. We need to see more attention to detail to entertain the possibility of 12-0.

Kentucky: 8-4

Toledo was probably Kentucky’s toughest nonconference game, and given how the rest of the SEC East looked, UK has a puncher’s chance at another nine-win regular season.

Missouri: 8-4

West Virginia looked pretty weak in their opener, so we’re assuming the Tigers can bounce back after that ugly loss at Wyoming and win that one. If not, then 6-6 starts to look more like a reality.

South Carolina: 5-7

Considering that they have to play Alabama, at Georgia, Clemson, and at Texas A&M, it’s hard to string together six wins for this team after a Week 1 loss to a North Carolina team that only one two games last year. This was a loss the Gamecocks just couldn’t afford.

Tennessee: 5-7

Speaking of which, if you can’t beat Georgia State at home, it’s hard to imagine too many SEC games ending well for the Vols, who could get a challenge from BYU this coming week. If Jeremy Pruitt can turn it around in Knoxville, this loss will be the bottoming out point that starts the bounce-back. If not, well, this was the beginning of the end.

Vanderbilt: 5-7

Losing to Georgia wasn’t a surprise. How risk-averse and boring Vandy looked doing it was something of a mild shock. Could UT vs. Vandy again turn into a game played for a bowl berth?
