Just two more Saturdays remain during the 2014 SEC football regular season, and rivalry week will be here before we know it. More teams were eliminated from division races Saturday, and the SEC East and West are becoming clearer but still certainly not settled.

Here are the biggest takeaways from Week 12:

SEC Championship

Are we headed towards a 2012 SEC Championship rematch with Alabama and Georgia? Alabama now controls its destiny in the SEC West, while Georgia looks like the best team in the East. However, in order for UGA to punch their ticket to Atlanta, Mizzou has to lose to either Tennessee or Arkansas. Things are becoming clearer in both divisions.

Bama was suffocating: Alabama’s defense has really improved throughout this season and stepped up to the challenge of facing Heisman contender Dak Prescott and MSU’s offense Saturday. The Tide’s defense forced Prescott to make some careless errors and throw three INTs. Blake Sims made timely plays at quarterback, and punter JK Scott keeps pinning teams deep in their own territory and flipping the field. Alabama is now the SEC favorite and controls its own destiny.

Important cover: Not only did bettors win money on Mississippi State covering the spread, but MSU’s five-point loss looks positive in the selection committee’s eyes. Now, even with the loss, it’s conceivable Mississippi State may not fall out of the top four in Tuesday’s College Football Playoff ranking. So, while MSU lost, the SEC won.

How far will Bama move up? Sitting at No. 5, Alabama was in perfect place to make its case against State and a top 10 Auburn, before the Tigers loss to Georgia. Alabama will jump into the top four, but will it be at No. 4?

Georgia 34, Auburn 7 (Game Highlights)

Dynamic duo: Todd Gurley and Nick Chubb combined for 282 yards and three touchdowns against Auburn. Gurley didn’t look like he missed a step after being suspended four games, and Chubb is getting better down the stretch and even surpassed 1,000 yards on the season. Chubb averaged 7.6 yards per carry against the Tigers Saturday night.

Gurley injured: Todd Gurley suffered a non-contact injury against Auburn, and it didn’t look good. Certainly, all of college football hopes Gurley can return this season. You can watch the freakish injury video here.

Jeremy Pruitt: Georgia’s defensive coordinator has Gus Malzahn’s number. Pruitt helped lead Florida State to the championship win over Auburn last year, and he limited Malzahn’s offense to just seven points this year. What a masterpiece.

Still waiting: Despite Georgia smacking Auburn, the Bulldogs still don’t control their own destiny. With Missouri knocking off Texas A&M, UGA must have the Tigers lose to either Tennessee or Arkansas to end the year in order to punch their ticket to Atlanta.

Auburn got shredded: Can Gus Malzahn ever win a championship with Ellis Johnson as his defensive coordinator? Georgia’s offense rolled up 412 yards, with 289 of them coming on the ground, and the Tigers lost the turnover battle -3. Auburn’s defense has given up some serious yardage this year, and when the offense isn’t on, things don’t go as planned. On a side note, Gus Malzahn’s unit scored just seven points against UGA, and it’s the first time a team has scored under 20 points since he’s been the head coach.

Missouri 34, Texas A&M 27

Quietest 8-2 team in the country: Many, many folks had Missouri losing against Texas A&M. Yet, Missouri still sits in the SEC East driver’s seat, despite being shutout by Georgia earlier this season. With UGA’s conference games over and having the huge head-to-head record, Mizzou has to beat Tennessee and Arkansas to punch its ticket to Atlanta.

Russell the boss: Hat tip to Mizzou running back Russell Hansbrough, who paced the Tigers’ offense with 199 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Hansbrough made A&M’s defense look like, well, A&M’s defense, and he had a monster night. All total, Missouri racked up 335 rushing yards against the Aggies’ defense, which is limping to the finish.

Comeback came up short: Texas A&M had the opportunity to tie the game on fourth down at the Missouri one-yard line, but Cameron Clear looked like he was in slow motion on the throwback pass. But it’s tough for an offense when the defense gives up 587 yards without two of the best players in Myles Garrett and Ivan Robinson. It’s a good thing Kevin Sumlin and his team beat Auburn last Saturday.

Arkansas 17, LSU 0

Shutout: Bret Bielema didn’t just pick up his first career SEC win, his team shutout the LSU Tigers and took back the Battle of the Boot Trophy. This one was sweet for Bielema, his team and the program.

So, LSU’s the SEC West’s worst team? Who would have thought? The Tigers will play Texas A&M to earn the prestigious ‘least in the West’ honors in the final weekend of the season. Yes, Anthony Jennings played terribly, and the Tigers looked like they wanted to get back on the bus and out of the cold. But Les Miles has a young team, and the Tigers are set up beautifully for the future, assuming they find a signal caller.

South Carolina 23, Florida 20 (Game Highlights)

Muschamp’s future? This is the end of the line for Will Muschamp, right? Really, the only way he returns in 2015 is if the Gators knock off No. 3 Florida State to end the season. Under Muschamp, Florida has lost 14 of its last 27 games. The Gators lost a total of 15 games during Urban Meyer’s tenure. And things were bad during Meyer’s final season. The most likely scenario is that Muschamp will coach the end of the season, and if the Gators don’t upset the Seminoles, the Muschamp era is over.

Gamecocks aren’t ready to quit yet: Sitting at just four wins on the season, the Gamecocks aren’t ready to give up just yet. Florida may have handed the Gamecocks opportunities, but USC took advantage of them. The blocked field goal, the blocked punt and the game-tying touchdown with just seconds remaining proves this team didn’t quit. It was ugly and beautiful all at the same time.

Florida blew it: The Gators’ special teams blunders were just way too much to overcome. Florida put themselves in a perfect position to get the win. Another field goal to make it a two-score game. A well executed punt to pin the Gamecocks deep in their own territory. None of that happened, and the result was yet another unexplainable loss…at home.

Tennessee 50, Kentucky 13 (Game Highlights)

Would Tennessee have won the SEC East with Josh Dobbs starting? Think about it. Tennessee is a completely different team with Josh Dobbs at quarterback. How did Butch Jones wait so long to start Dobbs? Better yet, had Justin Worley never been hurt, Tennessee may have won only four or five games. With Dobbs, Tennessee could win seven, and it’s a completely different outlook heading into 2015. Jones needed Dobbs to be the player he is now.

Kentucky has one to win one: After starting 5-1, Kentucky could lose the last six games of the season and miss on a bowl game. From a serious division contender to a team that may not make a bowl game, this year has been an emotional rollercoaster for the Cats. Kentucky has to beat Louisville after the bye week.
