College football is very much a week-to-week kind of sport and the most-recent news cycle currently belongs to Utah and LSU — the leaders atop the Associated Press Top 25 Poll in their respective conferences. There have been some shakeups among the top contenders in both the Pac-12 and SEC entering Week 6, and there are still among 15 teams in both conferences who believe they have a shot a postseason glory.

Here’s a look at our hybrid rankings between the SEC and Pac-12 conferences.

Bests In The Wests

Utah and LSU are the darlings of the NCAA right now and among the trendier teams when it comes to prognosticating the nation’s best squads. Joining the Utes and Tigers in the upper echelon of Pac-12 and SEC schools are Alabama and Texas A&M, who each posted resounding wins in Week 5 against big-time conference foes in Georgia and Mississippi State, respectively.

  2. LSU
  3. Alabama
  4. Texas A&M

Don’t Forget Us

All seven teams in this category believe they have what it takes to win their respective divisions. Standing between many of them, however, is a matchup against a rival that is in the same position. Florida and Georgia still need to play, as do rivals Southern California and UCLA, as well as California and Stanford. Each rivalry game between those six schools should come with some added bonus of postseason ramifications.

  2. Ole Miss
  3. Stanford
  4. Southern California
  5. Georgia
  6. UCLA
  7. California

Still Dangerous

All three teams have slipped at times this season, but the Ducks, Bulldogs and Sun Devils remain dangerous squads that no one wants to play. The trio find themselves just barely on the outside of the AP Poll, and sit a win away over a quality opponent from re-entering the rankings. Don’t be surprised if all three make an appearance in the top 25 at some point again this season.

  1. Oregon
  2. Mississippi State
  3. Arizona State

Close, But…

Arizona and Missouri are among the Pac-12 and SEC’s biggest disappointments this year as each have plummeted from the preseason AP rankings. Both are reigning division champs, but neither has played like it consistently enough this season. There’s still time for the Wildcats and Tigers to turn it around, and both should earn bowl bids, but it’s going to take quite the comeback and some upset wins to save their respective seasons. Despite the struggles, Arizona and Mizzou each have big matchups against divisional foes looming in Arizona State, Southern California and Utah, as well as Georgia and Tennessee, respectively.

  2. Arizona
  3. Missouri

Talented Pools

Arkansas and Tennessee appear to be linked at the hip this year, after disappointing starts to what was supposed to be an upstart season for both programs. While it hasn’t worked out as planned, the Razorbacks and Vols, as well at the Washington Huskies each possess lineups that are unbeatable when firing on all cylinders. Unfortunately, consistency has been an issue for all three schools. The Huskies might have the biggest upside of all three teams, having lost by less than a touchdown to both No. 25 Boise State and No. 23 California.

  2. Arkansas
  3. Tennessee

San Jose State Connection

Auburn and Oregon State have seen better days. The Tigers and Beavers, however, each share a common foe in San Jose State, whom they both beat by identical 35-21 scores.

Meh

Colorado appears to be the only program on the upswing among the bottom four teams in the SEC and Pac-12. The Buffaloes held tough with Oregon in Week 5, taking a 17-all tie into halftime against the Ducks. Alas, South Carolina, Wazzu and Vanderbilt have also shown signs of life this season, but have more questions than answers when it comes to their rosters.
