The Pac-12 has only had two teams make the College Football Playoff field in the five years of its existence, and those two teams have a combined 1-2 record with zero titles.

The conference has been shut out of the last two CFP fields, and it faces an uphill road when it comes to the 2019 season, with Oregon as perhaps the Pac-12’s best chance to land a team in the final four.

However, on Wednesday, commissioner Larry Scott seemed to take a shot at the SEC and other conferences, saying the Pac-12’s aggressive non-conference scheduling means its teams aren’t trying to take the easy road to the Playoff:

That sounds like a shot at the SEC, but consider this — a number of the toughest non-conference games the Pac-12 schedules are against SEC teams. For example, Washington opened the year with a loss to Auburn in 2018 and this fall, the Ducks will take on the Tigers in Week 1.

Can Auburn prove to be a roadblock to the Pac-12 once again? We’ll find out on Saturday, Aug. 31, in Arlington, Texas.
