Like first downs and cheerleaders, injuries are a part of football. There’s no getting around it — if you watch the sport long enough, your favorite team will be affected by the dreaded injury bug.

Many SEC players found themselves on the injury report in 2015, and here are a few injuries that had a major impact on how the 2015 season played out:

10. RB Kenyan Drake, Alabama — Drake suffered a broken arm early in a Week 10 game against Mississippi State, forcing him out of that contest and the two that followed. This paved the way for Derrick Henry to take an increase in workload — including 90 carries against Auburn and Florida — that helped him win the Heisman Trophy.

9. CB Will Redmond, Mississippi State — Redmond tore his ACL in practice before the Week 8 game against Kentucky. His loss not only hindered the Bulldogs secondary, but may have negatively impacted his NFL Draft stock as well.

8. WR Keon Hatcher, Arkansas — Brandon Allen had a spectacular season at quarterback for the Razorbacks, leading the league in passer rating. Imagine how much better he could have been with Hatcher available. The senior had 13 grabs before injuring his foot in that Week 2 game against Toledo.

7. QB Connor Mitch, South Carolina — He wasn’t exactly setting the world on fire when he went down with a shoulder injury in a Week 2 game against Kentucky, but the redshirt freshman was Steve Spurrier’s choice at quarterback. One wonders if the season would have turned out differently if Mitch stayed healthy — and the head ball coach had a chance to “coach him up.”

6. FB J.D. Moore, LSU — Fullbacks are an underrated cog in any two-back offense. Just ask the Tigers. Moore went down with a knee injury against South Carolina, and made a brief appearance against Alabama three weeks later before re-injuring it. With him opening holes for Leonard Fournette, LSU rushed for 346 yards per game. Without him, that number dipped to 162 yards per contest. The schedule got a bit tougher, too, but Moore was sorely missed.

5. RB Jonathan Williams, Arkansas — Williams rushed for 1,190 yards and 12 scores in 2014, but his season never got started. He went down with a foot injury in the preseason, opening the door for Alex Collins to take the lion’s share of the carries for the Razorbacks.

4. QB Kyle Allen, Texas A&M — Both Allen and fellow five-star recruit Kyler Murray have transferred out of College Station since the regular season wrapped up. But, what if Allen hadn’t hurt his shoulder against Alabama? He was poor against the Crimson Tide and even worse the following week against Ole Miss before missing the South Carolina and Auburn games. Before the Alabama game, he had 13 touchdown passes and two interceptions. After, he had four TDs and five picks. If he stays healthy, he probably keeps Murray on the sidelines and he’s likely taking the snaps for the bowl game.

3. RB Russell Hansbrough, Missouri — Hansbrough had 1,084 yards and 10 scores in 2014, and seemed primed for a strong senior season. But an ankle injury limited his production this season. So much so, that he only topped 20 carries once all season en route to 436 yards and one rushing TD.

2. DE Carl Lawson, Auburn — Lawson missed six games with a hip injury in September and October. The Tigers missed his NFL-caliber talent on the defensive front, and his playmaking abilities may have made a difference in close losses to Mississippi State and Arkansas.

1. RB Nick Chubb, Georgia — Chubb was off to a flying start in 2015, piling up 745 yards and seven TDs in his first five games. He suffered a season-ending knee injury just seconds into the next game against Tennessee, leaving Bulldog fans to wonder about the season that might have been.
