Super Bowl 50 will be a battle of SEC stars.

Peyton Manning led the Broncos to a 20-18 win over the Patriots in the AFC Championship. The game was a close one, and the real star was former Aggie Von Miller and his outstanding defensive performance. But Manning kept his head about him and finished the game with two TDs and no interceptions.

Cam Newton was responsible for four touchdowns in the Panthers 49-15 romp over the Cardinals in the NFC Championship. The Panthers set an NFC Championship record with their 49 points.

Newton is trying to become just the third quarterback in history to win both a college national title and an NFL Super Bowl title.

Manning and Newton were both the No. 1 overall draft picks in their respective NFL drafts, and both led their teams to an SEC Championship win.

This will be the third time two SEC quarterbacks have faced each other in the Super Bowl since its inception.

In Super Bowl XI, Fran Tarkenton, a former Georgia Bulldog, led the Vikings against Kenny “The Snake” Stabler, an Alabama graduate, and his Raiders.

In Super Bowl XLI, Manning, then with the Colts, walked away with a win over the Bears and former Gators QB Rex Grossman.

But Manning and Newton won’t be the only SEC alum on the field for the big game. There will be a total of 23 former SEC players taking part in Super Bowl 50.
