Now we know why the Carolina Panthers were so eager to push Cam Newton out the door.

If you missed it earlier, the Panthers announced they have given Newton permission to seek a trade out of Carolina. Newton immediately responded to that news, letting fans know this move wasn’t his choice and that the Panthers were essentially moving on from him.

According to the latest from NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, Teddy Bridgewater is headed to Carolina and will receive a contract worth around $20 million annually.

While a swap of Bridgewater for Newton may not seem like the best idea given what the two players have accomplished in the NFL, you have to take into consideration that Carolina hired former LSU passing game coordinator Joe Brady to be the team’s new offensive coordinator this offseason.

Bridgewater went undefeated as New Orleans’ starting quarterback last season when Drew Brees went down with an injury and prior to landing on Ed Orgeron’s coaching staff at LSU, Brady served as an assistant on the Saints coaching staff.

When you factor in that connection, Bridgewater should have a firm grasp on the offensive system Brady plans to run in Carolina, which gives him an advantage over Newton.
