This past week, Commission Greg Sankey sent a memo to the league threatening action if the SEC coaches didn’t wear masks on the sidelines during games. The details are as follows:

The memo states that programs whose coaches, staff or other personnel fail to adhere to the approved task force requirements will be assessed a $100,000 reduction in conference revenue. The amount will increase by $100,000 for each subsequent week of noncompliance.

So what kind of impact did the new threat have? Well, have a look:

Here’s Lane Kiffin’s “Manning” face covering:

Of course, it got pretty ridiculous once the game started:

Social media was buzzing all day about Jeremy Pruitt’s “head covering.” We’re not sure he understands the goal of a mask.

A number of head coaches wore normal masks and did a good job. Others wore normal masks, but had them in various placements and shapes half the time. Other coaches like Jimbo Fisher seemed to just say “to hell with it” and coached much of the game without a mask at all.

It’s much of the same with the coaches from other conferences as well. Stuff like this is quite common:

This has turned into straight silliness. I get the goal of the optics here, but are the optics really that great when some of the coaches look like Jeremy Pruitt above and the ones that are complying with normal masks still have the mask hanging off their face half the time? What are we doing?
