The Kansas Jayhawks are 3-6 this season — good by their recent standards. In fact, coach David Beaty entered the year with a 3-33 overall record, so he had doubled his win total in Lawrence.

However, on Sunday, it was announced that Beaty would not return to the sidelines next season, as AD Jeff Long released a statement saying Beaty had been fired.

Per the release, which you can see below, Beaty will remain on the sidelines for the Jayhawks through the end of the year:

For those of you who think it will probably be awkward having a team playing for a lame-duck coach, that’s Kansas football.

Who will take over for Beaty? Long says a search for the next coach will begin immediately.
